Do I need an amp or sound card for these Audio-Technica ATH-A900X headphones?

Title says it all! I'm using these headphones for gaming and music. I don't need them to be any louder - they make plenty of sound as is. I am currently using the onboard audio of the ASUS z97 motherboard, which is a  Realtek ALC892 sound card. So, will a separate sound card and/or amp improve...

Do I need an amp, DAC, and/or sound card for Audio-Technica ATH A900x Headphones?

Oh, hadn't thought about that. Is there some sort of program or piece of electronics I can get my hands on that can create virtual surround sound in the headphones for games? I know I heard about that somewhere, I just don't know how one would go about doing it.

Do I need an amp, DAC, and/or sound card for Audio-Technica ATH A900x Headphones?

Hey guys, I'm just about to buy a pair of Audio-Technica ATH A900x headphones, but I need to know if I should buy anything else to compliment the headphones. Will an amp, DAC, or new sound card be necessary to ensure these headphones are performing as they should? My motherboard is an ASUS Z97...

I have the ASUS Z97 motherboard with a built in Realtek® ALC892 sound card. In order to make use of the high performance of my new headphones, should I buy a new...

    Best Gaming and Music Headphones?

I'm into competitive gaming, but I don't really play any FPS games competitively. The most I do in that department is TF2 lol. So no, an enormous soundstage is not a requirement. I would like a decent soundstage I suppose, but immersion is more important I think (though feel free to convince me...

    Best Gaming and Music Headphones?

That sounds about right! And I'm fine with buying a modmic. The only thing I want to add is that it needs to be effective for gaming (although I don't know if that changes anything!)

    Best Gaming and Music Headphones?

Oh, sorry! Had no idea there was so much involved. Okay, so I want the sound to sound pretty true to the actual sound. So... Neutral? I would, however, like it to do bass pretty well. Nothing teeth-shattering, but it should be pretty good. I will mainly be using it with my custom gaming computer...

    Best Gaming and Music Headphones?

Alright, so after hours of tiring research, I still have no idea what set of headphones I need! I know a commercial gaming headset is considered to be overpriced, and that a good set of headphones (with a mic) would be higher quality. I'm looking for headphones for gaming firstly and music...
