    A new DA7.2x ?

Sean: It appears that the metal (?) square boxes are discrete op-amps, like the Citypulse DAC. The IC op-amps appear to be voltage regulators. It also is a dual-mono design, with two toroids and two power supplies. However, unlike the Citypulse DAC, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to...

    The "mod your Zhalou" Thread

Jon L: My Zhaolu has the caps bypassed, 2x2107's and 1x2111. SilClear on all the board connectors and fuse, chassis damping. I have a ZapFilter on hand, but haven't installed it. Larry

    The "mod your Zhalou" Thread

Roger, Jon: There is considerably better resolution and bass control with the 7.2x than my modded Zhaolu 2.0. Over the past three weeks, I've switched them in and out of my system many times, as they sit next to each other, using the same cabling, running off a Felicia balanced power supply...

    A new DA7.2x ?

Yesterday, I took my 7.2x to a friend's for a shootout with his Meitner Bidat (stock) being fed by a CEC belt-drive transport. Other equipment included passive pre, Komura 845 PP monoblocks driving Duevel Bella Luna speaks, top-shelf cabling. We played a few tracks of his choosing to warm things...

    A new DA7.2x ?

Tower: Only one sample, but no problems with losing lock, ever. Also, the 7.2 doesn't have the turn-on pop of my Zhaolu 2.0. Switching between coax and optical inputs or upsampling is dead silent, also. I've only been feeding it 44.1 so I don't know about use with a computer. Larry

    A new DA7.2x ?

Pojen: My posts about the 7.2 only apply to its use as a DAC. In that regard, it's great. I'll be posting more as I compare it as a DAC with other stand-alone DAC's. Regards, Larry Welsh

    A new DA7.2x ?

PoJen: I don't use an external headphone amp. If you are referring to the volume-controlled RCA outputs of the 7.2, they are not nearly as good as the discrete analog outputs. I tried using the 7.2 as a pre-amp and it's so-so compared to my TacT, although it's better than many pre's I've...

    A new DA7.2x ?

Supersonic: I'm aware of burn-in, although the topology of the 7.2x doesn't include op-amps, which take a very long time to burn in. So far, I've got 100 hours on it. I haven't noticed any big change in the sound compared to the changes in Zhaolu 2.0 after burn-in. Still sounds great, there's...

    A new DA7.2x ?

Skull: I think all the units Eddie gets are congigured for 220v. The label on the back says 220v. However, with dual primary 110v windings on the toroid and two positions for the power connector, it's obviously designed for either. The 110v 4-conductor connector position is right next to the...

    A new DA7.2x ?

Towert7: No external headphone amp. I primarily use this in my main system and rarely listen with cans. See my profile for equipment. Andrew: Eddie emailed me to say he forgot to configure it for 110v and told me what to do. No problem with warranty, there was no seal. Larry

    A new DA7.2x ?

Yikes! As impressive as the modded Zhaolu 2.0 is, the DA7.2x outperforms it in every way, even with only 24 hrs. on it (according to Eddie). It has deeper and better-controlled bass, better resolution, blacker background, much larger soundstage, faster transients, more texture. I had been...

    A new DA7.2x ?

I received the 7.2x this morning. Gotta convert it to 110v. Build quality and finish are impressive. It weighs a lot more than the Zhaolu. Impressions later. Larry Welsh
