I would have to agree with you on this one. My pair keeps getting better and better with each passing week. I too have been comparing them to my 497's and the 280's have now surpassed them in rock. I never thought they would be better than my 497's for rock, but these 280's keep surprising me.

Well, I want to know if the 495's are better than the 497's for heavy metal and techno. What I really want are some sturdy open-air headphones to bring along in school (hazard-prone environments). I actually own a pair of 497's, but after I got some new 280's, I want to upgrade my open phones...

I would have to agree with a previous statement about the Senn HD-280 pro's improving dramatically. Mine could not play Rammstein worth **** when I first got them, but after I burned them in with bass tests and certain Rammstein songs, they really blew me away! And the bass (all sounds really)...
