How does it sound without eq? Although the dac is doing the decoding, you pc is still altering the tone if you are using the eq.  Are you using USB, or spidf?  My setup disables the eq when using spidf, but usb treats it like a soundcard and eq options are available. It very well could be your...

I would go with the Darkvoice 336se for several reasons over the Little Dot.  The Darkvoice 336se, is mostly point to point wired, which lends itself to easier modding and repair down the road.  Also the tubes used a much easier to come by and much cheaper for NOS tubes.

As far as these variants, I have tried a bunch and this is the one instance were the Chinese 6n3t (taller version) is better than the NOS stuff out there. All of the NOS sound dull and boomy
