I've narrowed down a list of monitors. Can anybody give me some input?

glad you're liking them! I actually pulled the trigger a few days ago on a set and am waiting for them to be delivered.  The Buzzing sound you're hearing is most likely because the speakers are directly connected to your computer via the motherboard sound card which is prone to computer...

So i actually emailed Hosa cables and asked them they said that yes, can be split down the middle all the way to the 3.5 connector. but be warned! voids the warranty on the $8 cable.

Based on the images of the hosa cable I think you'd be able to split it all the way to the 3.5mm connector but only someone who owns one could confirm that for sure.

I've narrowed down a list of monitors. Can anybody give me some input?

each speaker has 1 1/4" plug so by getting the HOSA CMP159 cable which has 2 1/4" plugs you connect 1 1/4" to each speaker, then the other end of the cable which has 1 3.5mm connection would plug into 1 connection on your computer or a DAC. The way the cable is designed it will take a single...

I've narrowed down a list of monitors. Can anybody give me some input?

With the JBL's you can plug them directly into your computers sound card using the HOSA CMP159 cable (or the shorter CMP153 version) and you'll get sound. that cable will get you the 2 1/4" ends (TRS) and the 1 3.5mm end which is what would connect to your computer. If you decide to get a...

the DAC, Adapter and cable. Or you could try out your speakers with the current sound card you have, if they sound like crap then get the DAC and adapter + cable, but if they sound great to you then you've avoided spending $100+ on a DAC + accessories.

Looks like the Fiio E17 with an add on of Fiio L7 might work for both your head phones and your speakers.    see this thread.  http://www.head-fi.org/t/615728/your-help-about-fiio-e17   that + the HOSA CMP-159 would allow you to connect your speakers to the Fiio when you're at home and when...

I've narrowed down a list of monitors. Can anybody give me some input?

The FIIO E09K is technically a headphone amplifier but you can also plug in active monitors (the JBL's you're getting) The E09K would definitely help with your headphones as it would give them more power making them sound A LOT better. E09K is not portable.    The E17 however is portable and...

I've narrowed down a list of monitors. Can anybody give me some input?

These will probably do the trick http://www.hosatech.com/product/339846/CMP-159/_/Stereo_Breakout,_3.5_mm_TRS_to_Dual_14_in_TS,_10_ft   I'd also suggest eventually upgrading your sound card as that can make a significant difference. I've got my current speakers (AV40's soon to be JBL's) hooked...

I've narrowed down a list of monitors. Can anybody give me some input?

I'll add to your list. I'm about to upgrade as well and have pretty much decided on JBL LSR305. I've looked at all the ones you've mentioned but these seem to stand out.  I know it's above your budget a bit (around $150 per speaker) but you could always wait a little longer until you have the...
