    I like the concept of no moving parts and for 130.00 this would a good experiment. If we can tweak the QA-550 like we did the Valab, we can make a so so sounding product awesome..google QA-550..some good comments. Will try the I2s connection with valab

    russell, you can add 8 more chips but you have to change the I/V resistors to 180R, deal with heat sinking/ cooling of the dac chips and also the heat from the power supply because of the extra current

    slightly off topic ..I just built one of these passive pre's and this thing is amazing cost less than 100.00 to build ... google lightspeed LDR and read what people are saying.. no moving parts uses LDR's the control the volume DIY Lightspeed Passive Attenuator Rich

    when I did the ssom I heard a fuller sound. Is this the distortion that rhodes measured? could it be like how solid state compares to tubes.

    Damm! SC944-05 are the old ones.. I just got mine today. I googled scientific conversions and there is a lot of talk about the sc-944-05 ..didn't know they got updated. I should have called them to find out which was the best for the dac caps I use have installed rubycon ZA's in one and sanyo...

    on the low end of the scale I made a digital cable using a sata cable. just cut the ends off and solder some rca's . Not too bad for $5.00

    Rhodes54, I just replaced the russian .01uf input caps to the Vishay MKP1837's and I am hearing a clearer sound too. ..more snap and faster sound ..the russian caps are sluggish compared to the MKP's. Rich
