Moto Z and Moto Z Force - perfect candidates for a high end DAC/AMP

@Karendar I have not made that much progress. I have to swap out the DAC because I'm pretty sure I toasted the other one. I'll get back into the swing of things soon and see what I can get done.

Moto Z and Moto Z Force - perfect candidates for a high end DAC/AMP

Alright, with that out of the way (money will be returned to the whopping 3 backers) BUT I will still be working on the dac/amp. I am still working through the details of the first one, trying to take it slow and learn what I can.  I still expect to have something ready by Fall (although...

Moto Z and Moto Z Force - perfect candidates for a high end DAC/AMP

    1. Pine uses +/-5 VDC rails, a PCM5142 DAC (frequency and bitrate TBD) and the amplifier section has work TBD as well. It will certainly be a Class AB with voltage feedback but the list of candidate components are still rolling through my test bench. Birch uses +/-9~12VDC rails, an AKM4490 DAC...

Moto Z and Moto Z Force - perfect candidates for a high end DAC/AMP

The issue with ANC is that the location of the microphone is deeply rooted in the equations for accurately timing the noise-cancellation signals. If that were standardized somehow, then ANC could be built in at the amplifier. Also, we would have to change the connector to support feeding R&L...

DSD sounds exciting! I still have not tried DSD, I hear it's a bit of a niche market.

Moto Mod Updates - Techy Stuffs Moto Z is turning out to be an awesome platform, No More Rubberbands! No More Adapters!   I've finished the power supply design! Doesn't sound super exciting, but it is! I have clean +/- 5 Volt rails. I am working on selecting DACs from a pool. I have it...

Moto Z and Moto Z Force - perfect candidates for a high end DAC/AMP

Yeah I was going for intrigue.. No need to be cryptic, we're working on one. No frills, no magic potion. Just excellent hardware added on to an amazing phone. I'll link on head-fi ASAP, Motorola made it pretty difficult so give me time!

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Why don't you use this? http://www.microchipdirect.com/programming/     I hear that! Thermal pads should alleviate tomb-stones. Even experienced soldering tech's hate me when I don't use thermal pads.

USB 3.1 Type C Will Change Our World

Very interesting to have an industry insider on this. From your experience you don't think that even if the motherboard/PSU could provide that 100W power spec we would see a marked reduction in size? I agree that the +-9VDC rails are more realistic, but that should be a marked improvement in...

USB 3.1 Type C Will Change Our World

This is more of a conversation starter. But I think that the Type-C spec of USB 3.1 will change the world of USB Audio. 20VDC at 5A available from a single port!? Designers of DACs and AMPs will have all that power at their fingertips. Can we get 10-15V rails in a USB powered Amp? With less...

Press Release: Sennheiser launches URBANITE headphones

But I suppose, I'm an Electronic Dance Music lovin' 80's kid. So... just hopeless.   All I know is if I designed this pair of headphones I could at least sleep well at night thinking   "I did the best I could with the budget  I was given and these are damn fine headphones."
