Audio-Gd Reference 10
Quote: Bingo. I find the AKM sound to be accurate, full bodied, tonally neutral, yet suffers from the same issues that the other SD chips suffer from (which seems to bother me a lot more than most folks). The voicing between Wolfson and AKM is roughly similar to what you...- Pricklely Peete

Looking for a DAC for my speakers.
The HRT will be a good upgrade. I think you'll like it. A buddy of mine has the latest Mk II + version and he loves it. Peete.- Pricklely Peete

Audio GD system and cables
Julien Two suggestions, 1) dedicated AC line for your system. I would go with a 20 amp dual duplex (plug the amps into the line directly) and the LC into any remaining free outlets on the dedicated line. Your thin bottom end will disappear completely, the strident upper mids...- Pricklely Peete

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
Blu Tak is a good putty like substance for dampening clock bodies, cheap too. Vibration control (isolation of transport and DAC), FIFO buffering in memory (so that an uninterrupted stream of clean data can feed the DAC), accurate clocks, power supply design, layout (both transport and DAC)...- Pricklely Peete

Audio GD Reference 5 coming soon
Quote: I use a high end dedicated transport for that job. The computer just has too many variables to account for (optimize, overcome in some cases, or work around) vs a stand alone dedicated transport. Some comp systems come close though, my own is quite good but it still falls short...- Pricklely Peete

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Quote: I'd swap out those old resistors for Holco or TKD CM2 series (2 W 1%) or Caddock MP925 (2.25W) type resistors. The caps you are talking about are you sure those are on the outputs ? Sound like a mains (PSU) filter cap to me. At any rate Partsconnexion has what I suggested as...- Pricklely Peete

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Quote: Most of that 350 dollar charge is due to the labor involved ....it's not an easy job to pull all the caps (some resistors, diodes etc) from these older amps. They are not as modular in nature as the modern stuff. A complete rebuild of an amp can take anywhere from 4 hours to 2...- Pricklely Peete

Audio-GD Phoenix cut the sound when iddle
Quote: Have you given the remote control a try ? I don't leave mine on for more than 8 hours at a clip simply because it's in a rack where there is limited space which contributes to a higher overall chassis temp. The volume should not cut out however, although it could be caused by...- Pricklely Peete

Audio-gd Digital Interface

DACMagic Plus Impressions
Anyone have some internal pics to share yet ? I'd love to see what the differences are under the hood vs the original unit. Nice to see CA are not resting on their laurels, the original unit had flaws that needed addressing. That being said I wonder if an entry level Rev 2 unit (minus blue tooth...- Pricklely Peete

Audio-gd Digital Interface
Just take special care when terminating your DIY digital cable...look up the best way to terminate it (using the jacks you have selected for the job) without introducing easily avoided mistakes which WILL effect the SQ of the finished cable. Try and find as close to 75 ohm jacks as you can...the...- Pricklely Peete

~$2000 Speaker Budget (Considering a B&W 600 Series, thoughts?)
Some used Maggie 1.6QR's are unbeatable speakers..the B&W's are quite a bit different than the JBL's from a voicing standpoint whereas the Maggies/ET's are in a league all their own. If you have the space and amps for the 1.6QR's I'd not look at anything else....you can get yourself a great used... -
Old Audioengine A5 massive pops, crackle
Maybe a bad batch of parts made it into production ?.............I ran into problems with some cheap parts a few years back which would fail within a year even though they were rated for 10,000 hours at 70 C. They were Teapo and Samson brand caps rated for 105C (small value < 100uf 25V/16V... -
Review of the Audio-gd DAC-19 DSP & C2 amp - The ACSS connection
Quote: If one is contemplating the likes of a 900-1100USD transport upgrade then I suggest none other than the CD7FV as THE best possible maximum exploitation of a RE1/7/7.1 series A-gd DAC. I agree with you FD wholeheartedly about the upgrade the CD7 brings to the table. Then again if...- Pricklely Peete
