    No sound from MDR SA-5000

Well... I prepared some up-occ copper wire I had on hand for them. Just for the heck of it I tested both drivers right at the solder pads and to my dismay discovered wiring would be pointless as the left driver is shot. Sniffle...

    No sound from MDR SA-5000

Great, an excuse to make new cables. However I will change that ground from black to green. And DJShadow, I checked with no results for them... however when I called Sony Style I was told they were available from their parts and accesories dep. Mine are going back on the headphones.

    No sound from MDR SA-5000

Thank you for the replies, I appreciate the help. I don't want to cause trouble by posting pictures so I may have to remove these but they could illustrate something unexpected. I have not done anything after opening them and all of the soldering is solid. The red wire leading to the left driver...

    No sound from MDR SA-5000

Greetings. I have lurked here for a few years now and amassed a new life in audio from head-fi. My favorite pair of headphones has suddenly lost all sound in the left driver. I had checked my source, the 1/4 inch plug and the wires leading into the housing. I have babied these with the greatest...

Conductors in Film and Foil Capacitors

Interesting jcx, I like what is being said. I've tried to think of what could be wrong with the structure of aluminum that would make it's electrical properties less important. I think he mentioned that the conductors in their AudioCaps and MultiCaps to be about five microns in thickness and the...

Conductors in Film and Foil Capacitors

Hey, I never thought of that. But when I called Reliable Capacitor to settle this curiosity of mine, the representative mentioned that the reason tin is superior to the aluminum was because of its greater electrical conductivity. After he said that, I had a hard time accepting some of the other...

Conductors in Film and Foil Capacitors

Greetings! I accidentally posted in the DIY forum ten days ago about this and did not receive any responses. I though it was ok because I had a few questions about using them, and usage in a circuit. Regardless, I should have placed it in this forum. I looking at film and foil capacitors and...

Conductors in Film and Foil Capacitors

I am trying to select film and foil capacitors and am having difficulty trying do decide between polypropylene film and tin foil or aluminum foil capacitors. Almost every capacitor available in these constructions suggests the tin foil is superior to the aluminum. I am perplexed, as tin just...

    Matched transistors in Dynahi

From Figure 1 on the first page. When using the 9v battery to match, is the Emitter connected to ground with out any power to it; or is the negative voltage connected. Assuming it is a NPN BJT. Also, would it not be better to use two or three 9v batteries to test under higher voltages?
