Apogee Groove Dac / Headphone Amp
I use it with an iPad or iPhone, an Apple lightning to USB 3 camera adapter, a longer/stronger aftermarket USB cable, and either the iPad charger or an Anker USB PowerCore battery supply. It can drive HD 650s decently and is simply delightful with my ER4S. Basically, nice if you are...- philslade

3rd Annual Austin, Texas Spring Meet - March 2nd, 2013
Many thanks to everyone, starting with Chris and Travis, for organizing this very nice, well-attended event. That was seriously good work. Kudos to all. Although our visit was very casual and we did only a little sampling, we got the sense that things are taking off in Austin and we feel...- philslade

3rd Annual Austin, Texas Spring Meet - March 2nd, 2013
Definitely drink it soon! No decisions on a serious headphone rig yet and competing expenses (house). You have set the bar pretty high by exposing us to the Cavalli plus Stax combo ;-) We'll look into driving our trusty AKG 701s better than the built-in amps in our Apogee boxes (FW Duets, MiniMe...- philslade

3rd Annual Austin, Texas Spring Meet - March 2nd, 2013
Very happy to join in on March 2... (If I am not already in Europe by then - no firm travel dates yet.) Ahead of SXSW definitely sounds like good scheduling. (And thanks again, BTW, MorbidToaster, for introducing my wife and me to some very serious gear at the mini-meet at your home.)- philslade

DAC/Amp Combinations that work well with iPhone 4S?
It may interfere with the pairing of dock-connected interfaces designed for the iPhone/iPod Touch. I have been experimenting with it to connect an iBasso D1 to my iPhone 4 and once the iPhone thinks it's an iPad it stops talking to my GuitarJack 2. BTW no joy with the D1 - it may require the hub...- philslade

DAC/Amp Combinations that work well with iPhone 4S?
The Sonoma Wireworks GuitarJack model 2 is a $150 pocket audio interface with ADC and DAC built in. The headphone monitoring output is excellent for the size and price. I use one with my iPhone 4 and FS Atrios. SQ is comparable (considering it has its own hp amp built in) to an iMod 4g. Designed...- philslade

As a well-known Stereophile columnist would say, "je ris mon mauvais rire" (I laugh my evil laugh). OK, I'll daydream a little, FWIW: HF is a huge, sophisticated, groundbreaking operation. It makes life much more enjoyable for thousands. It should not be allowed to fade into...- philslade

I can navigate and post in Tapatalk but no search function, and the app throws up error messages pointing to a 3rd party plugin developer as causing integration breakdowns. Naturally, the website is essentially unusable except on a PC or Mac, which means it is getting left behind fast by...- philslade

Toying with the Idea: Austin, TX Mini-Meet (Seriously. Mini is the key word here)
Hi, I live in Austin and I'd love to join in. I was prevented from getting serious over the past few years by repeated moves and remodeling but I'd be very keen on hearing a serious hp listening system at long last, especially with electrostatic or planar magnetic drivers. I have some basic...- philslade

Disintegrating iBasso D1 wall-wart
Belated thanks for the good advice. Due to moves and remodeling I had lost track of this thread. I got a replacement RatShak wall wart (a nice one with several output voltages and polarity reversal) and will consider looking for a US repair job. It is an excellent interface and I hope nothing...- philslade

Disintegrating iBasso D1 wall-wart
Hi - I wonder if anyone has had a similar problem? The OEM AC adapter that came with our iBasso D1 (bought modded from Ted Yun two years ago, a versatile little audio champ) abandoned a prong inside an outlet. That was a bit shocking (morally, that is). Should I bother telling iBasso...- philslade
