Sony pha-3 - anybody with recharge problem

Looking at the 15 hour charge time spec, I wouldn't be surprised.

Sony pha-3 - anybody with recharge problem

May be your charger has the data pins shorted? This is done to indicate it's a charger only and thus allow the USB to charge at a higher current. May be the PHA-3 doesn't support that?

    SONY NWZ-A10 Series

I am not disputing the factor that noise is less audible once you crank the volume up. But "noise floor" remain constant regardless of what you do with the signal volume. It is the baseline noise that isn't  affect by the signal. The SNR that manufacturers claim is always at the maximum volume...

    SONY NWZ-A10 Series

I don't think the term noise floor is used correctly in this scenario. Noise floor implies that it is the device noise that is constant regardless of signal level.   In the Windows envrioment, let's say the noise has a value of 1 and signal at 10% volume has a value of 1, the SNR is then 1...

    SONY NWZ-A10 Series

If I am not mistaken, all you are doing with the volume adapter is changing the volume. If you don't play any music and nothing but noise is coming from source, of course the noise is going to be louder as you increase the volume. The fact that the noise floor is still there doesn't change. The...

    SONY NWZ-A10 Series

You can't. Unless the noise is coming from the amp circuitry and LO allows you to bypass that circuit. In that case, you can use an external amp with lower noise floor. Other than that, there's not much you can do.   I think this is a misconception, that somehow the noise floor is lower...

    SONY NWZ-A10 Series

From the description this is a 75ohm cable, and is not the kind of impedance matching you are thinking about. Impedance matching in the RF sense is to have same input/output impedance to maximize power transfer, which is clearly not needed here. Unless you are find a transformer to increase the...

    Sony's new flagship 2014 - MDR-Z7

Thanks. I agree that the square wave can demonstrate the distortion of the tone, but the round edges and overshoots only speaks to the high frequency response, namely bandwidth and Q of the drivers. IMHO, I don't see the connection to bass performance from a square wave response.

    Sony's new flagship 2014 - MDR-Z7

May be a basic question, but what does square wave response have to do with bass?

    $3 of tube sockets = $16.77

Sorry to hear about the experience, but much larger distributors, such as mouser and digi-key all do the same. It's very difficult for them to estimate the cost of shipping of thousands of electronic parts. Image the shipping difference between one resistor, two resistor or 10,000 of them....

    Twisted Pear Buffalo Sabre DAC

Russ, Couple questions, here it comes. You mentions previously that the buffalo kit can come unassembled. Do you have a estimate date of availability on it? How about the price. Reading the manual, I am slightly confused about I2S input. Is it true that I have to rewrite the firmware...

joshua tree attenuator, where to buy?

Right now it looks like Twisted Pear Audio is out of stock of the joshua tree attenuator, does anything have any other way to obtain that attenuator? Or, is there another alternative to a digital controlled, relay based attenuator around? Thanks, Peter

Source for alumimum and Lexan sheets?

Very nice chassis Pars, too bad I already had my heatsinks, but that could be for a full blow Aleph-X. Any more thoughts? Would a 5mm thick Al sheet be about to hold up 25lbs of load? Thanks, Peter
