The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread

I ended up terminating my own cables. Abyss uses mini 3 pin XLR, and I went with a single main 4 pin XLR. The left side pin 3 goes to main XLR pin 1. The left side pin 1 goes to main XLR pin 2. The left side pin 2 is unused. The right side pin 3 goes to main XLR pin 3. The right side pin 1 goes...

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread

I did the zip tie + Velcro mod to allow the headband wrap around my head more. With this, the Abyss is by far the most comfortable headphones I ever had. At least for me, weight is really not an issue (I’ve worn motorcycle helmets for hours at a time, and the Abyss is very light compared to even...

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread

I ran my Phi through all the audiocheck.net tests and no rattle at all.

    Bowers & Wilkins PX Noise-Cancelling Over-ears

This is very counterintuitive (for me at least) but according to B&W instructions, LESS means it will stop/turn off more aggressively while MORE means it will take more to stop/turn off. So if your finding your headphones stopping too often, then switch it to MORE. If you find the headphones not...

    Bowers & Wilkins PX Noise-Cancelling Over-ears

Following up on the hissing issue, here are my findings. When I’m plugged into devices that are battery powered not plugged in, such as Hugo, iPhone, or Cayin N3, then absolutely no hiss. When I then plug those devices into a power socket (for Hugo I used adapter that came with it), I get...

    Bowers & Wilkins PX Noise-Cancelling Over-ears

Are you playing the PX wired and from the same source as the P7 (I assume you meant P7 and not P7W). The issues you mentioned (A and B) may be compression artifacts, especially SBC wireless connection. AAC and APTX should have much less noticeable artifacts.

    Bowers & Wilkins PX Noise-Cancelling Over-ears

B&W improves this tremendously with a firmware update (I think earlier this year), I had to use a computer to do the update. Before the upgrade, on certain tracks without replaygain enabled, I agree even at minimum 1 notch volume the sound was often too loud. After update it was acceptable (but...

Headphones in physycal store in Shanghai?

Are you looking for chi-fi gear? If so lots of selection and good prices. Anything in particular? If your looking for non-China made gear, then things can get tough finding deals. VAT is 17% and China has high import duties on electronics. Hong Kong is by far the best place to buy anything (no...

    Shanling M2s Hi-Res DAP with AK4490 + MUSE8920, Bluetooth, & USB Out

JD managed a same day delivery of the M2s! So far haven't had that much time with the M2s, but I'm listening to them now while writing this. Physical Appearance: The overall packaging looks great; very professional. The M2s itself is gorgeous and very solidly built but still light. Not what I...

    Shanling M2s Hi-Res DAP with AK4490 + MUSE8920, Bluetooth, & USB Out

That is correct. iOS only supports SBC and AAC. However there is no way to tell if AAC is being used except sometimes I swear a very specific portion of a song sounds off. Even then, with SBC you can't see what bitrate (bitpool) the iOS device is using. Even worse, if iOS is like the Macbook I...

    Shanling M2s Hi-Res DAP with AK4490 + MUSE8920, Bluetooth, & USB Out

I managed to get one a black M2s right at 10 AM sharp. After checking out, I went back to check and around 10:02 it was sold out (both colors). It's already shipped out of JD's Suzhou warehouse so I hope to receive it by tomorrow. I don't have much to compare this too. It's either Chord Hugo...

    Shanling M2s Hi-Res DAP with AK4490 + MUSE8920, Bluetooth, & USB Out

It may be more than security. Since it's an export out of China, the government may be requiring seller show proof of customer. Importing into chinese can be a pain too. In your case it may be better just to buy from a local distributor (let them handle export out of China).

    Shanling M2s Hi-Res DAP with AK4490 + MUSE8920, Bluetooth, & USB Out

I'm currently located in China right now, so I'll try and pre-order. The official pre-order date is tomorrow at 10 AM China time - if I'm lucky I'll get one (hopefully if so, should arrive by 28th) and post my impression.

    Shanling M2s Hi-Res DAP with AK4490 + MUSE8920, Bluetooth, & USB Out

I don't know of any DAP now that supports full 3.1 (gen 2) capabilities. For a budget device with no internal memory, I'd say it's the least important feature (assuming you still want the DAP at same price point). USB 2.0 effectively can handle all the bandwidth needed to stream 384/32 192/24...
