How to reduce volume on a MacBook ? Software stack for use with Modi 2

Both of you seem to advocate for a hardware solution.   Actually the sound is OK with the Volume Mixer App, the real problem with this app is that it randomly switches the output from Schiit back to the laptop speakers, and when it does so it automatically resets the volume to max.    I'm...

How to reduce volume on a MacBook ? Software stack for use with Modi 2

I bought the modi 2 uber to use with a macbook.   To use the modi you have to set it as the default output in Mac General Settings. But then it seems volume controls are greyed out, you can either mute it or set it at full volume. The problem is that I'm using pre-amplified Eris E8 speakers...

What’s a good USB DAC for use with a macbook?

Yes before I plugged them in separate wall plugs but one of my wall plugs is not working at the moment. Went with the Modi 2 by the way and it is OK but maybe slightly less good than my former Asus STX. I have also problems with volume that is way too high but I will open another thread about that.

What’s a good USB DAC for use with a macbook?

When my macbook is on charge, there is a distinct buzzing noise in the background coming from the speakers. When the macbook is unplugged, the sound is clear.   For playback I use a 2014 Macbook Air with a couple Presonus Eris E8 speakers. I listen mainly to electronic music, but looking for a...

    Decent earphone for 100$ ?

Thanks. I could not wait longer and pulled the trigger with the RHA MA750i. Other options are interesting but have limited availability where I live. The second hand option could be interesting to try premium phones at a bargain, will consider it next time.

    Decent earphone for 100$ ?

Thanks for the advice. Not sure if it applies for in-ear phones though. A bit like buying used underwear no? Thinking of getting the RHA MA750i at the moment. Work gets boring fast without headphones!

    Decent earphone for 100$ ?

Hi, I bought some Fischer Audio earphones a year or two ago, I think it was the Eterna, based on advice I got here. I've been quite satisfied with the purchase, the sound is great for the price. Sadly the left speaker is not working anymore, probably a problem with the cable. So I'm back...

How to tell what's the cause of left speaker noise?

I got the STX. So far the sound is the best I've had on my PC. I installed the latest official driver. I haven't noticed any problem with it so far, but if I do I'll keep in mind that there is also an unofficial one. I looked at the uni-xonar page and what I understand is that this is mainly...

How to tell what's the cause of left speaker noise?

Ok problem solved.   It was the soundcard. Possibly buggy Asio drivers for M-Audio Audiophile 2496.   With the Asus Xonar the noise is definitely gone.

How to tell what's the cause of left speaker noise?

I'm hearing the noise again.   I plugged my headphones into the speaker setup (there is a minijack out) and I hear the noise.   I switched the RCA cables on the soundcard output.   Now I can hear the left speaker working fine, but the right speaker gives the noise.   From this I believe...

How to tell what's the cause of left speaker noise?

Thanks. Yes definitely the problem is with the left speaker not the subwoofer. It seems to be almost gone now. Maybe it's some kind of electrical interference that caused it. Or maybe the speaker needs some burnin time for classical music, which I almost never played until now??  Or maybe...

How to tell what's the cause of left speaker noise?

Hi, I've owned for about three years a 2.1 speaker setup that I connect to the PC with a dedicated soundcard.   Usually I listen to pop music or electronic music, but recently I started listening to Mozart's Requiem in D Minor. The sound on classical recordings is less dynamically compressed...

Fischer audio Eterna vs Klipsch S4i vs Google Nexus 4 stock headphones

The Eterna seem less source dependent as other headphones. 192 kbps mp3 is ok (not great but listenable) whereas on other more precise headphones it would not work.
