Speaker amps for headphones
I don't know how many have heard of Redgum Audio from Australia but they make some pretty good sounding speaker amps from what I've read. Just stumbled on their "add-on headphone connection" for just under $80 US dollars. Doesn't say how it works or if it has resistors in it. ...- Micaiah

Speaker amps for headphones
Quote: Very interesting thread! I have the 600 ohm version of Beyerdynamic DT 880's. Do the above recommended resistor values stay the same? Thanks!- Micaiah

Project Sunrise/PS2 Tube Rolling Thread (and maybe even Project Horizon and Project Ember)
Thanks for the excellent comparisons chinook9, that was a lot of tubes! I know it can be quite tiring listening critically rather than to simply relax! Sharing your experience is much appreciated though. At one point you said that the CBS Hytron 5814 you had seemed promising. Can you say...- Micaiah

Project Sunrise II Kit Review
Quote: Yes, I've heard that. I believe that the click is a relay that mutes the amp until the tube warms up enough to be used. Just tried it and I can't hear it through the headphones right now but I know what you mean. Maybe the hiss-click noise through the headphones is only with...- Micaiah

Project Sunrise II Kit Review
Quote: On the Horizon (and on the PS II I assume) it's a preamp out controlled with the volume knob. It's also not muted when 'phones are plugged in. I forgot that at midnight one night to the annoyance of my neighbors. Had my headphones on and turned up the volume. Didn't know that I'd...- Micaiah

Quote: Thanks! I almost bought a 6N1P a couple weeks ago till I checked the tube list and couldn't find it. Might have to experiment. Carefully of course- Micaiah

Project Sunrise/PS2 Tube Rolling Thread (and maybe even Project Horizon and Project Ember)
Quote: Out of the four tubes I have, the 6N23P tube included with the Horizon is closest to that description. I've been waiting for an RFT 12AU7 to make some comparisons but I'm afraid it's gotten lost in the mail. My headphones are Beyerdynamic DT880 600ohm They have a little...- Micaiah

Project Sunrise II Kit Review
The #3 post in this thread basically says the same thing in comparing the Lyr to the PS II as what they told you on the Mad Dogs thread Kamahkahah. My Horizon and Beyer DT880 combo will make my ears bleed before I run out of headroom but then they aren't planar headphones. Although I've...- Micaiah

Project Sunrise II Kit Review
Quote: I've been thinking about getting a pair of Paradox headphones, plus I've been getting the urge to build another Garage1217 amp but of course I can't try before i buy. I'll probably just play it safe and use the money (when I have it) on Beyer T1's for my Horizon. The T50RP's/Mad...- Micaiah

Project Sunrise II Kit Review
Well the Project Horizon will have tons of high quality power to drive your HD600's. I've always wondered how it would sound with Sennheisers HD800. Someday, because of how happy I am with the Horizon and Beyer DT880's, I plan to try the Beyer T1's. Will have to save up for a while though. ...- Micaiah

Project Sunrise II Kit Review
Quote: Yes, it's the PCM1794A version. Very Exciting! I didn't realize that you hadn't listened to the Horizon yet. I still remember the first time I turned mine on after building it and bracing myself for a let down like other stuff I had high hopes for. The let down never came. ...- Micaiah

Project Sunrise II Kit Review
Thought I'd throw in my two cents regarding DAC's: I have a Project Horizon amp and am using a Ross Martin DAC with it (Laptop>Mapleshade usb cable>Ross Martin DAC>Darwin IC's>Project Horizon amp>Beyerdynamic DT880 600ohm) It also has SPDIF in, and Toslink in as well as balanced and RCA output...- Micaiah

Project Sunrise/PS2 Tube Rolling Thread (and maybe even Project Horizon and Project Ember)
I've looked on and off for a high quality 48 volt power supply for my Horizon without much success yet. If anyone finds something, please let me know. On a somewhat related note, it seems that my setup sounds better late at night (sometimes a lot better) so I suspect that the power could...- Micaiah

Project Sunrise/PS2 Tube Rolling Thread (and maybe even Project Horizon and Project Ember)
Hi ukemaxxer. I was wondering if anyone else out there had a Horizon! It really is a very good amp isn't it? I'm thinking about building a Sunrise II, but even if I don't, I'll be more than happy if the Horizon is the last amp I get. Just curious, what is the serial number of your Horizon? Mine...- Micaiah
