Sony HAP-S1 Upgrading Internal Hard Drive HDD to 2TB
Where did you read about 5.1 playability? I can't find that in any release notes from any of the firmware releases... I'm not interested in that - still just curious where that info is coming from.- McGilli

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
Hey! The only time I ever had that error was a year ago when a bunch of the units all were fed a bad firmware update by Sony which prevented them all from playing music even though they'd turn on and work otherwise. They'd all turn on but not music would play. And that was the error I'd get...- McGilli

Sony HAP-S1 Upgrading Internal Hard Drive HDD to 2TB
Hey! Think of it like a computer. If you have no hard drive/SSD in a computer, or a brand new hdd/ssd and turn it on - it will say to you it cannot find a drive to boot from. Reason being that the firmware is located on a chip in the machine itself - independent from the drive. Same thing...- McGilli

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
So - I was one of the 'main' guys who went through the bricking issue with my Hap-S1. My unit was taken by Sony engineering Canada so they could diagnose it etc and they just gave me a new unit straight up. Anyways. So. I upgraded to the newest firmware a while back - after waiting a few...- McGilli

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
So -am I the only person who is finding problems with this new firmware? The most obvious issue is that now my HAP-S1 will randomly repeat songs. Sometimes it's the first, or second or third song in an album etc. Just repeats it one time and then continues. But - this happens with every...- McGilli

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
The ongoing joke on another site is the that the: "Improves playback quality (HAP-S1 only)" is because the last firmware crippled the HAP-S1's ability to play any music files on it. Period. No connections to Internet radio would even work. So, in that sense yes, playback quality has...- McGilli

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
NEW FIRMWARE JUST RELEASED FOR HAP-S1 Just received an email from my Sony Repair Centre. Not sure if for the Z1 also - as this is in response to the previous firmware bribing S1 units... I'm not installing until others have confirmed it works, and what, if anything, is new.- McGilli
