Listened to the Nightowl at canjam this weekend and loved them. I listened through my DFB, their DFR and jitterbug, and their Violectric amp. Very comfortable all around. Currently using pm-3, but if $700 was in the budget, the nightowl would probably be my next headphone purchase. 

Listened to the red and black this weekend. Both are great, but I'd say the red is better in all facets. No surprise there but had to hear it for myself. Have been listening to my iphone 6+ cck3 and DFB since december with great pleasure. 

Regarding clamping force, I was bothered by it at first, and then the discomfort went away after a few weeks. I'm 6'3" with an average sized head, or so I like to think. Just give it at least three weeks and then you can send it back within your 30 day return window if clamping's a problem.

For those who have tried the Meze 99, do you notice more blockage of external noise with the PM-3? I work in a noisy environment. 

You could also check out Oppo PM-3 and Fostex. I haven't compared them, but maybe some others can chime in with noise isolation comparisons. I would be interested to know how much noise is blocked out comparing pm-3, aeon, nightowl, and some of the fostex variants.

Another possibility is the Meze classics 99, right in your budget. I haven't heard them, but I'm also looking to upgrade my QC25's and dragonfly black with a good noise isolating--not cancelling--set of cans. My top contender is the PM-3 right now. For those who have heard any mentioned...
