Leaving headphones plugged in, turn my mixer on and off?

Am I putting my headphones at risk if I leave my headphones plugged into my mixing board while turning it on and off? To be clear, when I do this there isn't a loud source signal going through the mixer and the initial no-load signal jump isn't loud, but it's still a signal rush.

    Looking for a 3.5mm jack/plug connector with a shell 8mm or less?

Hello all. I'm looking for a 3.5mm "mini" TRS jack/plug that has a 8mm or smaller diameter shell. I haven't found any. Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes such a smallish connector? One more thing, I don't want cheap plastic Chinese crap. I'm looking for quality parts.   Thanks in...

    RCA cable specifications

    RCA cable specifications

I built my first Hi-Fi. Sweet rig. Now i need to design some RCA cables, or maybe not, depends...   Like thousands of others who post on "audiophile" boards, I'm trying to demystify the engineering and marketing claims in order to come to reasonable conclusions. I'm not going to worry about...

    is it Sibilance?

This is an internet forum. We can't make sounds here, we can only use words. Those two quoted sounds above are the best sounds to describe sibilance on an internet forum. I would add sibilance sounds kind of ringy, kind of like the ring of a ring modulator. Sibilance is very subtle and only...

    Sennheiser Momentum impressions thread

This is correct... The HD 25 series were designed for broadcasting and monitoring. Excellent for DJ use. See my above post. They do isolate well. They do block out club surroundings well (very loud and obnoxious atmosphere). While at my day job I often can't hear people speak to me with them...

    Sennheiser Momentum impressions thread

Yea, clearly, the marketing backing this product is aimed at young yuppies. These seem to be fashion accessories as much as listening tools. That's cool, as long as they sound good. Personally, I'm a listening tool guy.   I've been a working semi-professional DJ for 15 years. My HD 25-1 are...

    Sennheiser Momentum impressions thread

I bought a pair of on-ears last week. Up until this purchase I've been listening to my music on a pair of HD 25-1 (85% of my listening time) and HD 600 (15% of my listening time) exclusively. I've owned both for about 8 years, a long time. I produce music as well. I've been using AKG K271 in my...

Sennheiser's Own Balanced Cables for HD 600/650, HD 700, and HD 800 Available This Week

Head-Fi and many of it's members excel at confusing people. This place hurts people's understanding of engineering as much as it helps.   I'm convinced it has to do with the sounding of the two words "balanced" and "unbalanced". "Balanced" sounds good, less bad, and less risky. Humans don't...

Sennheiser's Own Balanced Cables for HD 600/650, HD 700, and HD 800 Available This Week

You don't need balanced cable for a 10' length of cable.   Balanced cable starting at $240? That's ridiculous. Ridiculous? Actually it's insulting. With pricing like that, Sennheiser must think consumers are dumb.

special drivers for USB DACs - what's the point?

That's what I thought. Until I saw this:   http://schiit.com/products/modi     "USB Powered, No Drivers Modi plugs into virtually any computer—Windows, Mac, and some of the most popular Linux distros, as well as iPhones and iPads—and requires no drivers"

That's interesting. Thanks for posting that.

special drivers for USB DACs - what's the point?

What follows is an opinion, for reasoning's sake, not a fact...   The only reason I can think of is device features or compatibility with DAW software or mixing software (desirable for signal routing and mixing if a user wants to go in that direction). It is a case of hardware software...
