Upgrading from HD-560 Ovation II / Disappointed by DT-990
Hey'all I've for a while now used a pair of Sennheiser HD-560's as my primary full-size pair. They're pretty good - the main problem I have is that for beaty music - e.g. house or hip-hop - they are a bit weak. Furthermore, the cable insertions have come loose which means I have to wiggle the...- koipen

Beyerdynamic DT-990's broke, what should I do?
I live in Finland so I don't think I can send them over, but I'll definitely try vacuuming! Thanks for the tip.- koipen

Beyerdynamic DT-990's broke, what should I do?
Yesterday, I noticed that my DT-990's broke. The sound became weak and somewhat distorted (particularly on one ear), and it seemed that there was some clipping. I noticed that the stress relief between the left earpad and the cable is a bit loose (though not broken), but other than that I see no...- koipen

The Best audiophile tracks to test equipment
Others have mentioned many, but I have to nominate My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, in its whole. Shoegaze as a genre is made out of distorted guitars and vocals, and without good equipment it will mostly sound like a bunch of random noise. It's a good thing the album is recorded so well, and as... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Grizzly Bear - The Shields A top contender for my AOTY. -
What book are you reading right now?
I'm currently enjoying Hofstadert's Gödel, Escher, Bach. The book has been extremely informative and enjoyable regarding - and what it regards is not an easy thing to define - cognition, formalism in logic and logical constructs in general. Even after 30 years, Hofstadert still remains...- koipen

Album of the Year Thread
So far, Grizzly Bear's The Shields has risen to the top of the albums I've listened. I like the clean sound a lot, and I feel there is no particular weak point. Other contenders that rank high up there: The Swans - The Seer Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes Bat for Lashes - Haunted man -
Your #1 Favorite Album
While it's hard to pin-point my favourite, there are some that I think are really superb. I think I'd have to say Animal Collective's "Merriweather Post Pavillion". The whole album is full of energy and vibrancy. Production is impeccable, and the compositions are solid all around. The album... -
Rate The Last Movie You Watched
Very recently I watched "Scent of a Woman". I have to say, Al Pacino does a masterful performance in that movie, well worthy of the Oscar he got. The movie is full of emotion, and at times bounces from pleasantly happy to chillingly tense. The main complaint I have about the movie is the ending...- koipen

Flawless albums
I cannot say I've ever encountered a perfect album, but one of the better ones I've heard is The Antlers' Hospice. The album accomplishes its concept in a solid manner, and has an excellent mood. There are no weak songs that pop out in a negative manner. -
How large are the differences in sound between portable music sources?
The title went a bit bigger than I intended but what I mean: assuming same budget earphones unamped, what is the difference in sound quality between say, a budget Nokia and Sansa clip+ or similar? Currently I see no reason to buy an mp3 player because my phone can hold equal amount of music, and...- koipen
