    Koss Portapro Thread

So, about to open up my 5th pair of Porta-Pros(this includes two warranty returns, and the two spares I bought). Right side just went out. Anyone suggest recabling services that adds strain relief or something under the driver? I was just buying spares headphones but the price is just getting...

    California Headphones Silverado impressions

I bought the Silverado a couple weeks ago(I forgot the price, but I think I saw them on SlickDeals or something).  They're comfortable but the sound and sound stage is pretty disappointing.  I tried using them for gaming and holy cow, footsteps sound like they're coming from everywhere!  I have...

    Velour/Felt Pads for ATH-M50?

I guess my DT250 pads were too old or something; but I could not get them on my M50s(they've been on my MDR-V6 for quite some time).  I actually ripped the back of the pad a little and then just gave up, and ordered the 940 pads.

    Velour/Felt Pads for ATH-M50?

Sorry, I wasn't logged in so didn't notice this thread.   Volume didn't seem like it went down much, maybe 5-10%?  It's mainly the uppers though that seemed to be quieter.  I'm thinking the angled drivers may be attributing to this too.  Bass seem to have gone up(possibly due to the uppers...

I need headphones for gaming and metal on a budget

Of those I've used the PortaPro for gaming.  I liked them better than my DT990s simply because the mids weren't as recessed; worked well for gaming and now they're my primary portable headphone.

The alarming amount of newbies who's only requirment is bass.

I wasn't saying they're subwoofers, just saying tractors already come with sound.  Though, the harmonics in the cabs are terrible.  I've seen some custom rigs that UPS drivers put together but they have plenty of room to work with.

Quote: I work at Caterpillar, and the tractors with cabs comes with speakers in the roof(two Blaupunkt ~4" in the E-series Backhoe Loaders).  Though, you have to supply the head unit which is also mounted overhead.

The alarming amount of newbies who's only requirment is bass.

At one of my old jobs I worked with a guy that was just discovering music from the 80s/90s; reason was he didn't listen to radio growing up.  I was 20 years old at the time and he was around his 30s IIRC.   Many newbies probably like bass just because it's fun.  You can feel it, etc.(lots of...

    Velour/Felt Pads for ATH-M50?

Just slid them on top of the cushion-part of the M50 pads.  :)  They come off easily if you want to remove them or pull on them(given the surfaces of the fabrics), but there's no way they'll come off with "regular" use or freely slide around....I guess you can say there's no slack unlike simply...

    Quality vs. physical hardware

I know many people prefer higher bitrate formats and such, but is there a point where FLAC simply overwhelms the driver to produce sounds you wouldn't naturally hear(out of the hearing range) vs. a compressed format that's easier to produce?   I'm curious because I have some songs, both FLAC...

Yes, the holes on the grill, directly under the pads.

    Velour/Felt Pads for ATH-M50?

How I have it right now:   The velour 940 pads on top of the stock ones.  I sort of got this idea from Neil Peart's setup, and I had done it before by putting the old V6 pads on top of the stock ones(not permanently, but using tape just to hold it in place and pressure from the band/my...

    Velour/Felt Pads for ATH-M50?

I tried swapping DT250 pads from my V6, and gave up after sort of ripping the pads(VERY tight).  In comparison, the 940 pads are looser.   I don't really know how to rate the reduction, but it was the first thing I noticed.  I'd say maybe 30-40% reduction in "punch" and maybe 10-20%...
