The Apple diyMod: My Take on the Famous iMod [56k killer] Featuring 3G, 4G, 5G and nano 1G!

A thousand apologies, iQEM. I thought I had updated the first post with the Instructables project, but apparently not. I've fixed that now. https://www.instructables.com/DiyMod/ If you are into computers at all, you'll find there's a longstanding tradition of propping up old devices. There are...

The Apple diyMod: My Take on the Famous iMod [56k killer] Featuring 3G, 4G, 5G and nano 1G!

There is a lot that I have to work on, but I'm publishing it as is for now since I've been procrastinating this for years. I'll work on adding stuff like guides on how to open each device, but for now, there should be enough to go on to do your own diyMod. https://www.instructables.com/id/DiyMod/

The Apple diyMod: My Take on the Famous iMod [56k killer] Featuring 3G, 4G, 5G and nano 1G!

The sound leaves the Wolfson CODEC, then it enters a passive filter (inductors, capacities, resistors) before reaching the dock pins. There is no further amplification happening, so when we short the filter components, that is, rewiring from the CODEC’s output directly to the dock pins, there is...

The Apple diyMod: My Take on the Famous iMod [56k killer] Featuring 3G, 4G, 5G and nano 1G!

A thousand apologies to the people in this thread. I more or less left head-fi for a good couple years, satisfied with my audio equipment. Thus, when my tutorials disappeared off those free file sharing sites, I meant to transition to a permanent page on my personal website. It fell through the...

    Carrie Amp v3

There are a couple reasons why I tried this 2 channel design.   The Mini^3 was a design by amb and morsel, used with permission. I wanted to break away from borrowing someone's design into standing on my own two feet, so to speak. I know it's more or less a Cmoy circuit, but I still have some...

11th Calgary Head-Fi Meet Sunday May 31st, 2015 at University of Calgary

I'll be there later today. Hope to make it by around 3 or 4, but hope I don't miss too many people. Super excited!

@swich401 I don't know who else you messaged, but it would be worth contacting Edmonton head-fiers. Wouldn't be the first time Albertans traveled for a meet.

I should be able to make it to this one. I'll be bringing my 650s, modded SR60s, and PortaPros. I'll bring my Carrie Amp (my own design), and my MacBook Pro for playing files. Looking forward to it!

    Carrie USB-Powered Headphone Amplifier

I was thinking more of the reverse polarity damaging the caps, but taking them out wouldn't be a bad idea to experiment.

    Carrie USB-Powered Headphone Amplifier

Any chance for high res shots of the bottom side of the board? All that resoldering can't be good for those traces. From your previous posts, sounds like the TL750 and DCP are both working fine independently of each other.   When I put in a tantalum caps backwards, it went up in flames; it...

    Carrie Amp v3

I've built a couple in the past few months, so now I have some great learnings to apply. Will definitely update this thread when I get there, which should be early in the new year.

    What's the DCP's output reading?

    USB powered dac-amp musings

00940, what's your take on the isolated grounds? When you connect signals L, R, and G from the DAC to the amp, doesn't that just end up circumventing the ground separation?

    USB powered dac-amp musings

Oh snap. I gotta work on my reading comprehension.
