What would you compare these drivers to?

Well, I already put some 3D printed oval shaped rings inside the pads and then attached them to the headphone. They fit over the headphones even with the ring inside them. Basically a 100x120mm oval. My DT770s now have oval pads on them that will hold the oval shape. They're tight enough...

For 3D printing, I think the more joints and hinges you have in it, the more likely one of those would break. So for that, I think going with an internal suspension strap for adjustability, like AKG uses, would be better for the long term. For the clamping pressure itself, it may be possible...

So, I really like the sound of these Beyerdynamics now that I've owned them up a lot with some less sealing velour pads. But the comfort could be improved a bit. Stock pads sit on my earlobes, the ones I have on now are HM5 style and are a bit loose top to bottom. So I am thinking of either...

Cool, so I'm not just imagining that I notice this improvement (towards my preferences) in the frequency response of a bass heavy headphone using velour pads.

What if the headband was inflexible, but there was a hinge before the yoke (similar to what an M50X has), and there was some kind of metal spring used to keep inward tension on them to apply clamp? Like a torsion spring, or some elastic on the inside surface. I wonder if a suspension strap...

Trying out some different pads I had, I found the velour ones that were on my SHP9500s did a lot of positives. IMO, it tuned up the bass and treble in a way that seems to boost the mids significantly, I like it a lot now without EQ. It sounds a lot more neutral now to me. The penalty for it...

It would also seem at some point in the not-so-distant past, Sony began putting the same drivers into both. So the new MDRV6 probably wouldn't be much different than the MDR7506 anyway. I was going to order the MDR7506, but I really think I am going to have a problem with comfort with them...

And does the MDR7506 do anything better than the 770s? Also, MDRV6 is discontinued, new ones are up to close to $300 now. I don't think they're worth it at that price point.

There are a few things I do like about the MDR7506 over the HD280, and that's that it looks more easily repairable. Easier to open up to get to the wiring, easier to do a cable replacement, to repair the band, change padding on the band, etc. But the long term comfort is of concern. The pads...
