Focal Elegia - what do you think?
Honestly my bass expectations were just near Elear level, based on how they look, the price, and the name sharing the same beginning letters. Complete assumptions on my part, glad I tried them though. Your experience with the Atticus mirrors mine with the Elegia.- HesterDW

Focal Elegia - what do you think?
Everything I listen to consists mainly of, if not only bass :p, so the problem may lie with me. Or you just got the Headfi variant, while I got the Brett Butterworth Edition lol.- HesterDW

Focal Elegia - what do you think?
The Elegia's bass sounded very similar to the 6XX's in terms of quantity imo, just less airy. I perceived the slightest bit deeper extension, but I think that may just be an effect of closed vs open.- HesterDW

Focal Elegia - what do you think?
I don't think this is a closed Elear, despite its price and looks. These have much less bass than my Elears, too little personally. Mids are clearer, makes vocals on my Elear sound kinda muffled in comparison. But the bass on the Elegias might be the dealbreaker for me. Seems like it's in...- HesterDW

Focal Elegia - what do you think?
I get what you're saying but I do find it odd to assume the Elegia is an Elear retrofit based on how it looks, considering it's Focal, who makes every headphone identical, with slightly different shades of grey. But I do find your viewpoint valuable to keeping me grounded. My Elegia arrives...- HesterDW

XDuoo XD-05 Portable Dac/Amp Introduction - Impressions
In terms of skins, I don't think there is a specific skin for the XD05. I have seen people wrap anti-slip drawer liner around the amp and secure it with silicone bands. I was also looking for one that looked more tailored to the amp and ordered this skin for a portable battery pack on...- HesterDW

XDuoo XD-05 Portable Dac/Amp Introduction - Impressions
Well, I spent an hour last night stealing everyone's phones (and having to explain to each one What a headphone amp was lol). It was affected by 3/6 phones in the house. Then I noticed I could make the issue worse by touching various parts of the chassis, which sounds a lot like a ground issue...- HesterDW

XDuoo XD-05 Portable Dac/Amp Introduction - Impressions
Hey guys, I recently bought a secondhand XD05 and while testing it with my Samsung Note 5 I am getting a ton of interference noise intermittently, even if its not connected to the phone. It just has to be within inches of it. Wondering whether I should return it, since this seems like odd...- HesterDW

Focal Elegia - what do you think?
Focal sound, with good isolation? Say no more fam. This sounds perfect for me. I've been searching for some good closed backs for work and if your description is accurate these will save me a ton of time and money reading reviews and experimenting. I'll just cross those off my list and order a...- HesterDW

DIY Cable Gallery!!
Tried again, with Canare L-4E5C to Mogami W2929. Much more flexible than the previous cable. But how is Amphenol unable to match the color of their own connectors!?- HesterDW

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread
The right driver in my D2000s recently gave up. So since I had nothing to lose...I guess I now technically own TH-900s? Whatever this thing is called I'll take it. I'm enjoying hearing little details I never heard before while simultaneously being pounded in the head with subbass. TH-900...- HesterDW

Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
Shortened my cable to 5'. Elongated my sanity. Not sure if it's been said, but for wiring the jack Blue is left (tip) and Pink is right (ring). The 2 Brown wires not shown are Ground (sleeve). Pretty sure my ebonies are hitting all the bass notes in the song, if that's what...- HesterDW

Keepers that you will... never let go
Mine are modded Denon D2000's. I have Fostex TH-X00 Ebony's on the way for this very reason: D2000's won't last forever. And I'll probably get the rest of the TH-X00 line to keep as backup lol.- HesterDW

Never noticed the mark on my Emotiva until I took this picture, and now I can't stop staring at it. :/- HesterDW
