Just a quick observation:  Once the DX90 has some hours on it, mid gain sounds amazing with the K10's.  It really brings the vocals forward.

  Yeah, I wasn't convinced about burn-in benefits until I heard it for myself.  Can't wait to hear how much it will continue to improve!   Haha yes, I did.  But I bought them knowing I was going to get a better DAP eventually.  Now I'm really glad I started with TOTL CIEMS.

I have an AK120 coming in about a week or so and I can't wait to compare the two.  I'm really interested now. 

I just received my DX90 today.  Luckily I had a micro SD card already loaded with Random Access Memories by Daft Punk and American Beauty by The Grateful Dead, so as soon as I got it, I popped my K10's in and took a listen.  I wasn't impressed.  It sounded a bit 2D and muffled.  My Macbook Air...

Well, just got a DX90 today (it has about 3 hours of playtime) and it took my K10's to a whole new level.  I'm really beginning to appreciate the genius of these things.  The iPhone didn't do them justice at all.

Thanks, I just ordered the DX90! I figure I'll test it out and if I don't like it, I'll return it and go for the AK120 (although coming from an iPhone 6, I doubt that's possible).

  The replaceable (and cheap) battery is a huge bonus for the DX90 as well.

  Does the AK100 sound as good with the K10 as the DX-90 does?  Also, in your opinion, is the cost of stepping up to the AK120 justified purely by SQ?     I'm just concerned about how long the device will last.  Some people here on Head-Fi have had issues with build quality consistency...

My impression on the 6 v. the 5 is that the 6 expands the sound stage in terms of width and depth with a little loss of control on the low end of the frequency range.

I totally agree, although the bass is too strong in my opinion.  It interferes with other frequency ranges slightly.
