It's probably the solder joints on the gain switch

if it's a DACT, sometimes they do need to be opened and cleaned especially after several years. If the issue is with a specific gain level it's probably something else -- likely the gain switch itself or one of the relays. Would be very easy for us to fix

It's a little hard to see as-is (we could mark the middle of the indent with the laser, or also paint fill as we do on the Gilmore Lite knob)
