I have been using the high gain setting.  If I use the low setting, will the quality of music go down similar to if I just plug the speakers into an ipod?

My problem has been 95% solved, and it's sort of embarassing as to how:  I simply had utorrent running in the background uploading 1.1MB per second.  I've listened to three 320 mp3s on Foobar thus far and only had ONE skip/jitter and I am using the comp the whole time, not just sitting here.  So...

@hypersonic - Thanks for that post, you've brought a couple things to my attention.  I'm gonna have to retest my Modi with another system.  I satisfy most of your points, brand new laptop, etc.  Modi does not have it's own powersource, but who cares??  It should work!  heh.  I'm a bit irritated...

Yes, thanks for the suggestions, though!  Switching to FooBar didn't help.  Different drivers?  The modi auto-DLs it's own driver, as far as I know.

Thanks for the advice, perhaps it is Jitter, and this is how I'll refer to it until I fix the problem. I unpluged everything, even my Usb wireless mouse, and the problem persists. Through three songs of the Ziltoid 2:  Dark Matters 320 mp3's, I got a few tiny jitters and also two LONG ones...

  Just to be clear:  You've got the Music Hall 25.3 hooked up to your macbook Pro and it works without "Jitter" - yes?  I'm unfamiliar with this but I assume it's a DAC/amp combo.  This is some evidence that it is indeed the Modi, no?

I just checked and it was set to 44/16 "cd quality" - the minimum.  I will experiment with other settings.  Listening to 96/24 right now.  Though it sounds like you think having it set LOW would be best, huh?  

I did blow out the ports with an air-can and switch the usb port to no avail.  It's the same cable I was using with the old PC which worked ok, so maybe that's not likely.  Good idea on writing Schiit, I will do that now as Devin Townsend's "Epiccloud" mp3's are being ruined as we speak.  I...
