Sennheiser's New HD Line of Affordable Headphones (HD 451, HD 461, HD 471)
Does anybody have experience opening up these phones? I have the HD 451's and I was thinking about opening / drilling the back cover. I prefer open cans because they are less hot (main drawback), wider soundstage and because I can hear my surroundings too... (can't wait to get my hd-580's back...- Guust-Fi

Which PSU voltage is appropriate for this amp?
Hi, I am wonderding which PSU (voltage) to use for my amp: I hooked up my old Headsave Classic amp to a laptop PSU which was outputting 24.1 V (measured it) and it sounded broken. It hasn't been used for about 4 years. The original was a 24V 0.4A Elpac PSU but that one is broken. I used...- Guust-Fi

"Headsave Classic" PSU recommendations
Hi, I hooked up my old Headsave Classic amp to a laptop PSU which was outputting 24.1 V (measured it) and it sounded broken. It hasn't been used for about 4 years. The original PSU was 24V 0.4A if I am right though but that one broke after a while. I used a different 19.5V 4.62A laptop PSU...- Guust-Fi

About changing IEM cables - Polarity issues?
Quote: Same question. Anybody? I can't test by ear because I would have to reasemble the IEM and I would not be able to open it again.- Guust-Fi

New DAC or AMP + DAC for Sennheiser HD-580 (< 300$)
I would like to buy a DAC to use with my PC and my HD-580's. I only need USB and 300$ is my limit. I will be using this DAC exclusively with my computer and not for music in particular. I listen to all kinds of stuff on my computer, mostly movies/videos and some electronic music. I guess I'm...- Guust-Fi

HD-555 replacement advice?
Ok, situation changed. I'm getting the 580's from somebody who isn't using them anymore, for free!!! The question has become: Should I spend my money on a headroom Micro-DAC or similar or should I get a dedicated DAC and use it together with my Headsave Classic amp? More info on the...- Guust-Fi

HD-555 replacement advice?
Considering the fact I have a small Headsave classic amp. What would you do in my situation if you suddenly had the option of getting used Sennheiser HD-580's for 100-150 $? I guess a (32ohm) DT-990 at 150 $ would be a better choice. Perhaps even the HD-555's and foam modding them and...- Guust-Fi

HD-555 replacement advice?
The ATH AD-900 is too expensive. I'm looking for something under 280 $. I tried the DT 440 yesterday in a shop and they seemed nice. I only tested them 30 seconds though. The sound signature was similar to the other beyer phones. Perhaps the bass was less controlled. They seemed pretty...- Guust-Fi

HD-555 replacement advice?
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb219/Wootszie/hd595.jpg The crack issue is real. Mine ended up comepletely breaking. Cracks sometimes occur with the hd-595 too. (the hd-555 with the foam mod might be the best bang for the buck headphone) I can get Beyerdynamic DT 770 or 990 for 158 €...- Guust-Fi

HD-555 replacement advice?
I assume the HD-595 also suffers the same build quality problem? Anybody broke their head bands? I made a mistake about the DT-990. I don't remember where I read that. Like I said, I have a small Headsave Classic amp. If that would be enough, no problem...- Guust-Fi

HD-555 replacement advice?
I had a pair of HD-555's which I really enjoyed unamped. I have a small Headsave Classic amp though. (discontinued and made by "Norm" around 5 years ago) The HD-555's weren't durable though and the head band broke at the ear piece on both sides. I use them alot almost every day to watch...- Guust-Fi

Emu 0404 alternative
Fyi, I just bought myself an audiofire 4. I searched the head-fi forums on info first but I couldn't find much. I read some very good stuff about it here though: 6 audio interfaces--an unscientific shootout of sorts - Gearslutz.com I've been stuck with a chaintech av-710 for a long time now...- Guust-Fi

Recommendations after Shure e2c's (for house / electronic music...)
I just couldn't stand the default Sennheiser mx-400's that came with my mp3-player. After owning the Shure e2c's (they broke), I always wanted new canalphones. Finally, after a long delay, I bought the UM-1 's. I ordered them yesterday from www.inears.com and I received them this very morning...- Guust-Fi
