    True-Fi Software by Sonarworks

Some people might call me a heretic for saying this, but the Sennheiser HD700 sound awful right out of the box, but completely transform with this software. I actually liked these better than the far more expensive HD800S after using True-Fi. (Keep in mind that the 800S sound waaaaay better...

    Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

Glad to see someone else touting the ability of True-Fi to turn the HD700 into something special. I use it on my desktop and think it makes the HD700 sound as good as the HD800S. That probably makes me some kind of heretic. :-)

Did you make sure that both sides are pulled out the same amount? If they aren't, you can get uneven pressure on your ears. Like someone else said, these are some very comfortable headphones. I have a big head, so it can be a pain for me to find headphones that don't have too much clamping...

SMPhoo: I would recommend trying out the free trial version of True-Fi from the Sonarworks website. They do a good job explaining how their software takes down peaks (whether in the treble, mid or bass region), and then also brings up those parts of the frequency response spectrum that a...

    True-Fi Software by Sonarworks

Solid state amps and DACs add incredibly little distortion, right? If True-Fi corrects for the inaccuracies of the headphones, then the final sound has to be awfully close to reference flat. Am I wrong? Tube amps might be a different deal. But just how much warmth do they add?

    True-Fi Software by Sonarworks

I figured out that True-Fi leaves the HD700 a good bit brighter sounding than the HD800, at least for my phones. But that's one advantage to being a male near 50: to make them close in sound, all I have to do is adjust the age compensation slider to 10% on the HD700 to make them sound VERY...

Yes, classical is remarkably improved on the HD700 with Sonarworks. Without the software, some instruments were hard to hear, and others were too prominent. It was horribly unbalanced, leading to my criticism of the HD700 as being not as clear as my much cheaper HD598.

It was tough deciding between the HD700 and HD800, once I used True-Fi. Once they got that close in quality, then the $600 difference in price was hard to overlook, so I may be pickier about the HD800 than is really fair.

I tried the HD660S. I see why people like it. But I didn't think it was nearly as comfortable as the HD700, especially for someone with a big fat melon like me. :-)

So I tried out both the HD800 and HD800S. The HD800S is clearly superior, in my opinion, to the HD800, if you're listening to both right out of the box. But I read that the HD800 can sound exactly like the HD800S if you properly EQ them. So I got a trial version of Sonarworks True-Fi and...

    True-Fi Software by Sonarworks

Got the HD700 today ... and the HD800 is going back! The HD700 can handle the low end just fine. No, the HD700 will not sound exactly like the HD800, even with True-Fi trying to compensate both to a flat response curve. Some of the remaining difference in sound could be attributable to...

    True-Fi Software by Sonarworks

I bought both the HD800 and HD800S. Out of the box, I far preferred HD800S. I had read, though, that EQ could make them sound the same. So I tried this software, since the cost is so much less than the difference in price between the headphones. I will say that the two sets of phones do sound...

I may have spoken too soon! I remembered a number of folks on here talking about Sonarworks. Using that program, the HD800 and HD800S sound VERY similar now. There are still some differences, but neither is universally better. So now I'm thinking I may be smarter to stick with the HD800...

Got my HD800S phones tonight. They're awesome! I had been trying the regular HD800, but they just seemed to be lacking something. Now I see why people say the HD800S delivers what the HD800 were missing! There's just more "meat" to the sound. They sound very good with my Chord Mojo. I'll...

This is an awesome review, and motivated me to buy a pair of HD800S. Should arrive soon. Are these still your endgame headphones? Do you still use iDSD to power them? I've got a Chord Mojo, and am wondering if I would prefer the iDSD. The bass boost is intriguing, as is the 3D option.
