    channel imbalance or ears?

The quick way is install a decibel meter phone app and use an online test tone generator to sweep through the frequencies and switch the left and right to compare. Just center the headphones so the phone mic is centered.

    Does Adapter affect sound quality?

I've got two of them, it's a very good performer and won't affect the sound quality. It has a low output impedance, so its not going to change the frequency response.

Solid-state drivers - the future of portable sound to headphones?

I've had the Creative Ace2 IEMs with the Xmens solid state drivers. The mids and highs were exceptionally fast, even more responsive than planar magnetic with no chance of congestion on busy tracks. The dynamic driver for bass was pretty typical sound though. They're worth it depending on...

Planar Magnetic Headphones and heart pacemakers

I use an EMI detector phone app that uses a phones magnetometer to measure USB ports for noise. Might be useful to check the distance from a headphone driver to see the distance and how strong the magnetic field reads compared to other devices.

Looking for a 3k usd dac

State of the art performance has come way down in price. The Topping D70Pro Octo is amazing, just put it together with an A70Pro for a client and it's flawless. Even the much more expensive Aune and Gustard DACs I've had don't sound any better. Even the SMSL CO300EX I have is 5.2 volt out and...

    Planar Magnetic Clicking

Its not, there's something amiss if you hear that. Have you tried plugging it into something else to narrow down if it's the source? Loose ear pad, damaged audio file, or a cable that's loose on the connection or headphone cable that makes it happen when you move could be a shorted wire inside...

Has anyone tried the SMSL SU-9 Pro and/or SMSL SU-9 Ultra? I wanted to know if the Pro model has the same "black background" as the Ultra model

For a DAC it's the connection that determines noise floor, like if you have noisy USB ports. I always go on Audisciencereview to choose from a DAC with no jitter penalty for optical connections. The other for amplifiers is check the 50mv test which determines noise floor. The most silent noise...

Falling in love, out, and back again: the HD600

Those are hard to beat at any price. I've had every Sennheiser except the Orpheus of course (until I win the lottery) and the HD600 is my favorite. Easy to equalize. For thumping sub bass, the Beyerdynamic DT770 250 ohm really get a move on when the song calls for it. Also the new DT770 Pro X...

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.

Don't buy a Gustard DAC to go with it. X26Pro at 16lbs I felt like I was going to tip over carrying it up the stairs...

Total IEM newb: daily-driver bangers under $160-200? (you guessed it, with tons of bass...)

Sounds like your describing the Artti T10 which has the best bass Ive heard in an IEM except for the slam of the 7hz Timeless (original not the lame AE version with a dynamic bass driver). It's plain looking, but sounds excellent. Also they feel pretty durable, and the included cable is the...

    Headphones to compliment Abyss 1266

The ones I'd pick are the Dan Clark Stealth or maybe the Heddphone version 2. I had the original one and they seem to have fixed the shortcomings like lighter weight. I didn't like the Audivina closed back, the Arya Stealth will always be my favorite Hifiman.

Who modifies headphones in North America?

On Etsy there's places that do cable conversions and other custom work. Consolidated Sound Services is the repair arm for Beyerdynamic North America. I've gotten parts from them and they're really knowledgeable. https://www.consolidatedsoundservices.com/

    300 Ohms and 97dB/1Vrms vs a 44Vrms Output and 132dB Dynamic Range

The HD600 is a fantastic headphone, but the 300 ohm rating is conservative, the bass region peaks at 511ohm so you need more power to get the full bass dynamics out of them. I've had every Sennheiser except the HE-1 Orpheus and tested them with everything from an Apple 3.5mm USB adapter to a...

    Portable-style DAC using AC power?

There's a cure for running out of battery life, the Unihertz Tank has a 22,000ma battery in it. It's so over the top though, the Hummer of wireless phones... https://www.unihertz.com/products/tank A desktop Topping DX3 Pro+ used for $99 will let you plug the phone into it, or bluetooth as a...
