    The Stax Thread III

Thanks guys,   sorry for not finding this myself. I think it would be helpful to move the discussion to the other thread (electrostatic-amplifiers-voltage-ratings#post_7925458), this deserves some new acitvity anyway...can someone do that for me?   Btw.: Need to go deeper into...

    The Stax Thread III

Hi folks, when reading your posts, I thought it might be appropriate to step into the discussion here with a more technical theme regarding Stax small signal & power bandwidths...   Some general remarks Recently I acquired a SRM-353x / SR L700 combo, playing very nicely, while hooked up to a...

FiiO E17 "ALPEN" - First Impression + Final Thought

Would be interesting to understand whether the E17 is also limited to play 24/88 on USB, eventually using a different data flow scheme compared to the E10, where the TE7022 seems to be the limiting factor? Could be that the E10 uses USB to I2S Output? and the E17 USB to SPDIF TX...but anyway the...

Homemade headphone amp sounds great, but...need some advice

Thanks, good idea MrProggie,   Tried out, but did not have any effect, unfortunately...   In parallel I did modify the headphone cable from the shown relatively un-flexible thick unshielded one (which is molded to the sensor connector on the above pic.) to a flexible thinner shielded one...

Homemade headphone amp sounds great, but...need some advice

Hi G1DRP,   thanks for the comment. Meanwhile I could achieve a reasonable improvement by inserting a heavy alumminum foil over the connector area. It is pushed elastically against the left and upper side of the enclosure due to a plastic insulator foil inside. Well, the noise is still...

Help needed with LD mkV and low impedance headphones

hey lejaz,   what you could do is to introduce a voltage divider, as I did in my old Yamaha (see above). You would dimension it in a way that the the LD runs at maximum undistorted output voltage (from this you will find the attenuation factor, according to your desired loudness), then you...

Help needed with LD mkV and low impedance headphones

Yes, now it makes sense to me!   Similar results I obtained, when driving the UEs via a (240Ohms) series resitor and measuring the voltage across the earphones. The WooAudio 3 (OTL tube) must have quite a significant output impedance, since they recommend it only for headphones from 30Ohms...

Help needed with LD mkV and low impedance headphones

Reminds my of my   UE Super.fi 5 Pro´s transfer diagram (taken from UE´s site) - Though not too linear, still sounding well. I bet, due to the custom molds I am using, the curve is different now. Subjective impression is a dip around 5KHz now, and coming up earlier again (than the 16KHz...

Help needed with LD mkV and low impedance headphones

Very good summary indeed,   I struggled with similar problems (see http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/504573/homemade-headphone-amp-sounds-great-but-need-some-advice ), but probably a magnitude worse, due to 2-way earphones.   To give a more precise interpretation there are 2 things...

Homemade headphone amp sounds great, but...need some advice

Hi,   Need your support!   Intro: When trying out my new custom-mold UE adaptors (2nd pic), I found they sound different on various eqt. (Iriver 340-HD-Music-Player, Samsung NC10-Netbook, N95-Multimedia Phone). The reason is the output impedance of the above devices in combination...

Duration to open a thread as a new user

Hi, I just joined Head.Fi recently, posted a thread, but no thread is visible (I saw a glimpse of a window stating sthg like a new members thread needs to be checked somehow (pics are stored in default album...). How long does this take?
