thats a tough question and the answer might not be formulated as such. These two players are on about the same level but don't sound the same. So, only comparing them (in your own system would be best) will help you find out which suits you better. Cheers!

It might be that the "Volume" controls on the back of your new Parasound power amp are "Gain" controls (most likely of the passive kind, active Gain controls are pretty rare). Such power amps are meant to be used with preamps. It, very likely, can be that the output stage of the CD Player cant...

I have mixed results with putting different kinds of "weigths" ontop of CD players. With the cheaper stuff it can put "things" in its place but with the higher end stuff it can overdampen the sound. So, its not an "works always" tweak but worth a carefull listen. Cheers!
