The All-New WA7 Fireflies from Woo Audio

I think you guys have convinced me to get a WA7 sooner than later.  Kevin, I actually want the DAC and like that it handles high resolution samples because I record concerts at 24 bits / 96 kHz.  It's too bad I didn't know about the amp during the intro price.  I agree that the amp appears to...

The All-New WA7 Fireflies from Woo Audio

I kind of want to buy one of these, but knowing it used to be $799 and is now $999 makes it really difficult to purchase.  I can wait until the WA8 or for the price to fall.  Or wait for used ones to start showing up.  It totally sucked when I bought some Ciamillo Gravitas brakes for $1000 one...

HIFIMAN EF-5 or ALO Pan-Am...help me!

I'm comparing the EF2 to the Pan Am.  I have a HeadRoom Total BitHead, but I want a big volume knob on my desk.  The EF2 is way cheaper, but the Pan Am looks a little better.  Neither has crossfeed, which might be a dealbreaker.  Any recommendations?

Canon 50mm f/1.2 L, talk me out of it.

I want a Canon 50mm 1.2.  Anyone want to sell me a used one?  I don't know if there are so few used ones on the market because they hold their value very well or because nobody who owns one wants to give it up.  There must be someone out there who needs a couple thousand dollars and doesn't use...

Need help on knife sharpening & water stones!

I have the 2 sided Norton waterstones.  I have a 220/1000 and a 4000/8000.  The 220 wears down fast, so I'd suggest getting a whole stone of 220 for grinding down other people's badly damaged knives.  The 1000 side gets the knives sharp and I only use the 4000/8000 for my straight razor...

    Whisky (or Whiskey) Fi

My favorite, by far, is the Talisker 10 year.  I think highly aged whiskies like Johnnie Walker Blue or Scapa 16 taste like a stick or like rotting stuff in the sea.  Any other Talisker fans out there?

    Flashlight-Fi (LED & Conventional)

Also, I recommend using the lower color temperature LED's because even though their brightness and efficiency ratings are lower, yellowish light reveals more detail than bluish light.

    Flashlight-Fi (LED & Conventional)

Heat dissipation is a serious issue, for anyone who has tried to build homemade LED flashlights.  I use thermal epoxy to mount my LED's on aluminum heat sinks and use them bare to get better performance than a store-bought flashlight.  Does anyone have a better way of making homemade flashlights?

    How to reduce cable noise?

Quote:   Weird.  My Shure SE535 Ltd have over-the-ear cables and still make lots of noise.  They make noise when I chew gum, turn my head, walk, anything.  It was really annoying at first, but now I'm used to it and don't notice it.  I mainly use them on planes, trains and buses because...

Headphones you regretted buying the most

Sennheiser PXC450.  They sound inaccurate with the power turned off and I thought they'd work fine without the battery on.  I was hoping they'd perform better than the Bose stuff because Sennheiser spend less money on marketing.  The PXC450's were disappointing both in sound quality and noise...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Quote: It's funny you suggest improved pads because I thought they feel extremely comfortable already.  I have the HD650 and tried the HD800.  The HD800 feel lighter and wrap my ears better.  If only they didn't look so funny, I might consider a pair.

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

Quote:   Quote:   Can I suggest the Shure SRH-1440 to add to your list?  I second trying the Grado SR225i or even the 325i because they are noticeably better than the SR80i.  My Shure SRH-1840s are my favorite so far.  The SRH-1440s appear to have a similar build so I imagine...

    AKG K701 listening fatigue trouble

Quote: For people who want to try crossfeed before they buy, it would be easy to write a little script that converts a track to a .wav file and applies crossfeed not realtime before saving it.  Maybe it could have a feature where it flips crossfeed on and off every 5 seconds so users can...

    Grado Fan Club!

Does anyone have experience putting larger earcups on the Grado RS-1i?  The small earcups are rather uncomfortable.
