Shure e5 / e5c / scl5 appreciation thread
Quote: Hey mate thanks for the recommendation. Will be considering this and doing an audition if I have the chance/ time. Any idea of this compared to SM3? The latter seems to have similar sound sig/ stage as e5 but I have to hear for myself. The 3 way crossover seems interesting.- broww

Earsonics SM3 Appreciation Thread - Third Time is a Charm?
Hi all Didn't get any reply from another earsonics sm3 thread http://www.head-fi.org/t/552337/earsonics-sm3-v2/900 hence shall try my luck here. Any user of Shure SCL5/ E5c out there to do a comparison? May want to upgrade to a 3 drivers IEM soon. I know its a 3 drivers vs 2 drivers...- broww

Opened up my ue superfi 5 eb as I constantly find the RHS has lesser bass and suspect its due to seal issue. Turns out the sound tube is indeed broken and has leakage. Hope this picture will help someone in one way or another. Red colour damper in the tube and model of high freq driver is UE...- broww

Earsonics sm3 V2
Any user of Shure SCL5/ E5c out there to do a comparison? I know its a 3 drivers vs 2 drivers IEM but am very interested in the comparison of sound stage. IMO SCL5 has one of the widest sound stage out there. The old Westone UM2 may be totally similar in construction to E5c (check out their...- broww

IMO I actually enjoyed the bass. Could be that it tightens after seriously many, many hours of burn in. Less boomy for sure. What i find lacking is the midrange. Vocals do not sound warm, for a earphone with midrange driven by dynamic drivers. Isolation wise is not as good as shure's scl or se...- broww

thanks man...really appreciate your help in explaining the difference. Seems like a good crossover + damper is the way to go for flat response...- broww

Thanks for the link, was informative. Was just wondering since the purpose of cross over and dampers is the same i.e. to tune freq, which is a better choice, or is there a need to use a combination of both. Will human ears be that sensitive as to hear the difference between a combination of both...- broww

CIEM- Digital manufacturing-hybrid iem
Quote: That I agree totally..I wonder does the sound from iem with crossover vary greatly against sound from iem using only dampers? Assuming both iem are the same (other than dampers vs crossover) and frequency tuned are close to but not exactly the same as each other (due to stock...- broww

Very nice work you've got there MuZo2. Looks very professionally made... anyway best is indeed hard to define as it is itself very much defined by personal preferences? and best itself can mean best for listening pleasure? sound referencing? Guess this is what makes sound a form of art. ...- broww

Quote: Wow edba2000, impressive to say the least! (as do many others here for their effort). Does the placement of the drivers (angle, distance from opening) within the shell matter? And what method do you use to fix your drivers into position within the shell so that they do not move?- broww

Anyway does anyone happen to know where did UM source its dynamic driver for Merlin? Will be excellent if a dynamic driver could replace the BAs... --> less tuning and no crossovers? Or maybe just act as a woofer i.e. do a Merlin or superfi. 5 EB (which is difficult).- broww
