BassDigger
I'm not 'all about that bass'; I'm looking for bass that's as realistic as the rest of the music!
- Location
- In at the deep end.
- Interests
- I'm a hardcore minimalist: only 'real' hifi; no PC audio, EQs or MP3!
Non-headphone? Well, that'll be loudspeakers, amplifiers and source components.

Audeze LCD2.2 (Leather-rosewood)
Ultrasone HFI-650 (for movies etc.)

- Headphone Amp Inventory
- Zerozone ksa5 (KG Krell klone)
FX-Audio DAC-X6
HLLY RMK-5 (Beyer A1 clone)

- Source Inventory
- QLS QA-550 SD card transport: Modified/upgraded and powered from bespoke DAC.
Cambridge Audio DAC 3: Original Stan Curtis model (with 4 x TDA1541 S1 R-2R chips); heavily modified, including additional transformers and power supply for transport; I²S connection from transport; jitter reduction, 7220 oversampling filter chip bypass; upgraded clocks, caps and other components; plus a tube output stage.
- Cable Inventory
- Transport to DAC: Bespoke handmade silver/copper I²S/power.
DAC--Amp: Missing Link 'Alaqia'
Shielded RFI reducing mains cables for both DAC/Transport and amp.
- Power-Related Components
- None....yet.
- Other Audio Equipment
- Many, but I'm looking for some phones that can deliver the realistic bass tune (obviously NOT the power) that my kit transmission line speakers reproduce.
I may have the word 'bass' in my screen name, but I don't consider myself a 'bass-head'; Sure, it's possible/probably that I enjoy and place more importance on the bass than many around here. But, I still just want it to be in proportion with the rest of the audio spectrum.
Here lies the problem: to me, most speakers, and all 'phones (that I've tried, so far), just don't portray the weight and body of the instrument, performer and the music as a whole; the sound doesn't have the bass fundamentals that I hear in real life.
Hence my search (digging) for equipment that reproduces the bass, properly. And when I find it, I really 'dig' it!
- Audio-Related Tweaks
- Eh? I dunno. But my advice: do your research, before you spend your money. And above all, don't believe the hype!
- Music Preferences
- Anything (except jazz), but mainly electronic, rock and pop .
- Occupation
- As little as possible.

You don't have to 'show off' your rig in your signature, but it's helpful if you list your components....somewhere!
