dual CMOY - input buffer necessary

ok, my wife and I watch movies in bed sometimes, using the laptop. This is usually at night when our small daughter is sleeping in the next room. To not make noise, we use headphones, but I've not been too happy running them through a splitter. Sometimes the sound fades on one phone, or only the...

That's what I read (somewhere) but Tangent says to do it with a source connected. Input Capacitors for Headphone Amps I am just wondering if there is a reason the DC is all over the place when I use it with the V6's and not with the AKG 270s and cheap(er) Sonys... I mean, if I use it with...

Another update. I got it working. Sort of. If you look at the first picture, you'll see I had the right channel wired to the wrong pins on the in and out jacks. yeah I'm dumb, D-U-M. I still don't know how I was getting audio out the right side of the headphone and not the left. oh well...

ok, spoke too soon. Well, it sort of works. I'm getting clean audio on the right side. Nothing on the left. Decent sounding, haven't tried good headphones yet cuz I wanna get 100% first. Checked the cable, seems ok. Guessing the left is shorting to ground somewhere but I don't know. Can...

wow, that was quick. First, my PSU is giving +14.85V But at the DC in jack it's +11V The V+ to ground(middle two bars is DC in, +11V) V- to ground is -0.02V. Picture coming up in a sec, gotta take it apart and it's a pita. EDIT Ok I think I found it. I had what could have been a...

OK, bon apetite. When you get back, are you talking about the DC in jack? I just connected it the way I thought a battery would connect, batt+ to V+ batt- to V-. In Tangent's page, he shows a diagram of how to connect a battery and DC jack using diodes so that only one powers the circuit. Both...

Hey, thanks for replying. I did take pics, just couldn't find the darn USB cable to get them on my computer. The walwart puts out 15V on the center pin. I have a female DC jack on my mint tin, with the center-pin going to a switch (I'm using the Alps pot Tangent sells which has a built in...

Hi, guys, back from the dead... I just built this amp up since I loaned my CMOY on Friday and don't know if I'll get it back. I made it with a regulated 15V wallwart type supply (pin-positive, goes to V+, ground goes to V-). Is this right? I plan on doing 2x 9V batteries when I find a larger...

    my Cmoy gots voltage probs

Not sure what happened. Last night, I got my latest Cmoy together (exactly according to Tangent's site) using a 2132 opamp. Not in a tin yet. OK, so I checked voltages, power was ok, then checked DC - OK, plugged in a source, re-checked DC and was getting .8-1.5 VDC on both outputs... I got...

    PPA v2 with STEPS

Thanks James.. I wonder if you'd share your BOM? I already have tools and such, and I guess I am interested to see what parts you used, what is high quality hook up wire vs what I may have available here and through mail order. my email is lowhere{(at)}hotmail{(dot)}com thanks!

    PPA v2 with STEPS

Hi, I've been thinking of getting one of Tangent's PCBs.. Not quite sure if it will be this or the Pimeta. I want to run it with AKG 271s and Sony MCR-V6s (the latter are pretty easy to drive) and have two questions for those who have built it... Is it a good match for those phones? Is it...

(portable?) amp for AKG 271 and MDR-V6

    There's a DIY forum? oops!

low impedance headphones + amp = any point?

I too use a couple of low impedance headphones, namely the MDR-V6 and AKG 271S (people say the 271 is actually hard to drive..maybe because it needs more current?). I have used both with many sources, but, especially the AKG, I feel is nowhere near the quality people say it has, and I think it...

(portable?) amp for AKG 271 and MDR-V6

Thanks for the reply... I am using AKG 271 though not 701. I wouldnt take a pair of 701s anywhere either. But, I tend to use both the AKG and Sony for monitoring and critical listening, and I also take the Sony on the road since it's more portable, hence the preference for a portable amp. I am...
