a-Jays 5
You're coming from a headphone I find to be very pushy and forward in the mid-range, in particular above about 1KHz, and while there is some sensation of mid-range veil with the a-jays five, it's not detrimental to their quality.- Arve

a-JAYS Five?
I have them. Short answer: comfortable. A tad bass heavy, but not dark or chesty - midrange may be a tad recessed, and there is some loss of detail, but nothing alarming, and they are still a pleasant listen. Sounds nothing like the previous a-jays models, which is a good thing - the 4 were...- Arve

Tascam TH-02 - Headphones waiting to be discovered??? (now Appreciation Thread)
Jay: Have a look at this frequency response comparison: http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=2861&graphID[]=2851&scale=20 That is the Sennheiser HD 598 and 558. The driver on those two headphones are identical (quite literally the same part number...- Arve

Tascam TH-02 - Headphones waiting to be discovered??? (now Appreciation Thread)
Just so we're clear here. Most of where this headphone fails does not have to do with the driver - I expect that if you want to make significant changes to the response curve, you will have to modify the motor or the damping of the driver itself. That said - the driver on this thing _is_ pretty...- Arve

Tascam TH-02 - Headphones waiting to be discovered??? (now Appreciation Thread)
Which peak? They are a tad recessed above 2 kHz, and slightly hot at 9-10 kHz. It might be possible to change some of this by changing the ventilation at the rear of the driver - that'd come after any other mod I'm planning, though.- Arve

Tascam TH-02 - Headphones waiting to be discovered??? (now Appreciation Thread)
Can be any number of reasons, but in the case of the TH-02, I rather suspect it's 90% to do with the plastic in the enclosure resonating, as it's a quite thin plastic - if you take the headphones off, and turn them up loud, you can very much feel the entire ear cup vibrating along with the...- Arve

Tascam TH-02 - Headphones waiting to be discovered??? (now Appreciation Thread)
I took some nekkid pictures of the TH-02 here: http://imgur.com/a/0P8PZ - as you can see, this headphone is very easy to mod. I'm getting a second pair so that I can try out various modifications, including a full conversion to an open can, and I'll also have a shot at fixing the issues that...- Arve

Tascam TH-02 - Headphones waiting to be discovered??? (now Appreciation Thread)
While the Takstar TS-610 appears very similar to the Tascam TH-02/TEAC CT-H02, it's not the same headphone (the earcup design is identical, and there are minor variations in the headband) - as evident by the 60Ω impedance for the Takstar vs 32 for Tascam/TEAC- Arve

Focusrite Scarlett 8i6
Note that overall, The Focusrite 8i6 is a very good interface, but the headphone output is not: Relatively low power, and a significant output impedance (not enough to tilt the frequency response of a 250 ohm can, though). With cans that are not trivial to drive (read: Your 880's), I would...- Arve

Edit Signature
Are there any particular rules governing who can and can't have signatures? I have relatively few posts under my belt, so I assumed it was bound to the post count, but couldn't find anything in particular. In other words: I don't seem to have the ability to add a signature, but I would...- Arve

@zeitfliesst To use these with a sub, there are two things you need: 1. A subwoofer with low-level inputs and outputs. 2. Something that can act as a volume control - when a sub is connected The reason for the second requirement is because you can no longer use the volume control on the AV 40's...- Arve

Hi. Not too difficult when I keep similar user names all over, is it :-) Oh well - back to writing about the similarities between the NAD M2 and your electric oven in my new series of "Explain it like I'm five" articles about audiophilia.- Arve

My review is much too long to paste here, so the full-length-review can be found here. I will however summarize my review quickly, and expand a bit on it: These are a good choice if you are a producer on an extremely tight budget - as a "my first studio monitor" speaker Sound stage...- Arve
