Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
That's exactly why I just consider the batteries to be unobtainable. They're a niche product, so I can't imagine there would be many batteries in circulation from the third-party market. Like you, I'm a little weary of the charlatans on the internet and I don't need the portability so much. The...- Artstar

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
For my old NW-F807 unit, I removed the unobtainable battery and rewired it internally so that it could be powered via the USB cable in the absence of the battery, eliminating the risk of the old internal battery bulging and causing damage to the rest of the unit over time. I dare say the NW-ZX1...- Artstar

Well, if you wanted to take the chance, you could source the APK file from a third party but then you forego the protection of Google's people who are there to ensure that no rogue application makes its way to the user. Of course, Google are far from perfect with doing that, considering some...- Artstar

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
Current version of Tidal on the Google Play store requires Android OS 5.0 as a minimum. Sadly, our ZX1 devices never got past 4.x. I think 4.4 was the last OS released for this device? Someone feel free to correct me on this. I haven't powered mine up since I converted my car's infotainment...- Artstar

Being in the EU, you were subjected to an EU-compliant device, whereas my Japanese unit is more than sufficiently loud. I use it with IEMs anyway, since earphones just fall straight out of my misshapen ears but don't blame the device. Blame the EU regulations because they feel their job is to...- Artstar

I agree with you on that. The price is borderline ridiculous, in my opinion. I still have my Japanese ZX1 and it serves its purpose primarily as my in-car entertainment source (plugged into the Aux via the USB+RCA breakout cable I bought for it). The battery has gotten pretty bad so I'm thinking...- Artstar

I don't know where you got that information from but it does absolutely no harm whatsoever. Whoever told you such a thing needs to be slapped with a brick. ;)- Artstar

By far the best advice. These batteries love being topped up, not run down.- Artstar

If you're referring to the Google Play Store updates, just switch off auto-updating. Unlike your phone, it's not going to be that regular an occurrence to require automation for anyway.- Artstar

SONY NW-ZX2
Has anyone tried to see if screen mirroring is possible with the ZX2? I'm curious to see if it would be possible to mirror the screen up on my car's AV system, whether it be via a direct video connection using the WMC-NWV10 cable or via a wireless mirrorlink interface, as I've done with my...- Artstar

It won't delete the existing home screens. It is a different launcher in place of the stock Sony launcher, in which you can create your own home screens.- Artstar

SONY NW-ZX2
I like the idea of it running a later version of Android which should, in theory, support screen mirroring. This would be particularly handy with my in-vehicle solution where I currently run my ZX1. I haven't tried it with any 3rd party apps as yet but I doubt it will work, whereas the ZX2 might...- Artstar

Mine is the complete opposite. Twice in a month now, my ZX1 has refused to power up despite being a fully charged battery. I have to hit the reset button on the back and we're good to go again. Weird and I haven't installed any aftermarket software on it, aside from its automatically updating...- Artstar

Out of the box, it won't do DSD. I have the 1TB unit I bought a couple months ago. You might be able to do it with Twonky, as already suggested. If you dare to try it, let us know your findings. I'm perfectly happy with hi-res FLACs. "If it sounds good to you, that's all that matters. " -...- Artstar

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
I see the Android platform as an enabler for flexibility to the user. If the Windows platform can offer the same, great. Given how I use my unit, I would be disappointed if Sony were to dump Android in favour of an OS that didn't offer me that same level of flexibility in terms of installing...- Artstar
