**** The Janka wood hardness rating (in pound-force) for Ironwood is 3840; that for Leopardwood is 2160. Not really close. Ironwood is one of the hardest woods, period. Leopardwood is definitely above average in that respect.
We just need Zach to release a VC or AC in Quebracho or Lignum Vitae now.

Actually my ideal would be one in Snakewood, I don’t know if he’s ever used it. Super hard and dense, but also absolutely beautiful.

Who has VC in a wooden box (like the attached one)?
Could you please measure the dimensions of the box and its total weight (approximate), including the headphones?
Thanks

Thank you,
I have got Ironwood VC and I had borrowed stock Sapele VC. I still can not decide what wood to have. Sapele wood VC is 1360 Janka and I was pleased by its weighty sound caused by decay - it was gorgeous with a prog metal music, but added decay was too much for other genres like classic (with my setup). Ironwood VC is beautiful, I can tell there is more clarity, less decay, this pair is fantastic allrounder with all genres I cant decide if I should have VC in different wood mostly for progmetal or keep the Ironwood VC - but VO is already my allrounder :).

I have to confess, I bought the VC and VO with a thought I will choose between them and sell the other - I cant, I simply cant and still have both

Beautiful Ironwood! I was able to grab a set in last year's select stock wood VC sale and really pleased how they came out.

I measured mine at 13.25" long, 11" deep (not including metal clasp), and 5.25" tall. I don't have a scale right here, but the weight on the shipping label says 7 lbs.

I literally spit coffee laughing at the 7 lbs. Hadn't read the request carefully and was imagining an ironwood VC weighing 7 lbs. Holy Janka!

Ha! Sorry--I probably should have been clearer, too. That's the weight listed on the shipping label for everything shipped--the wooden box, VCs in the box, all the accessories like pads and cables and paperwork, and also the packing material.

Today I installed the titan acoustic mesh (solid for closed zmfs) on my vc, and the treble now sounds really smoothed out and very nice. I was always very sensitive to sibilance (the focal elegia and beyerdyanmic headphones hurt my ears after a couple minutes) and even paired with tubes on the cayin ha3a I thought the vc treble can be a little bit hot at times (even with -2db high shelf filter from 6k+). According to my email question to zmf, they said that the acoustic mesh reduces treble response, while not really affecting the mids and the bass, and I have to agree. I have the ori pads in cowhide installed and couple with the acoustic mesh, my vc's have gotten a nice increase in bass and decay due to the Ori's bigger chamber and harder cowhide material, while getting a nice smoothing out of the treble. A nice mod to try out if your preferred sound signature is more in line with mine, though I suspect at this point my VC sounds sort of like the AC with these changes.

And probably just as poisonous as all the other woods 😂

Not being too much out in the woods: I still do love my sapele VC….haven’t had the option to try more wood…🤓 but of course I do trust you….
