Ah… In which case, you may find the 4070 may have something for you. I tend to listen to the 4070 out of tube based energizers and I do enjoy it very much. Of course, do bear in mind that it is probably the heaviest of all of the Stax earspeakers, although it is nothing compared to the weight of planars. Thanks I appreciate the reply. That's quite interesting as the overly diffuse soundstage of the X9k, the fatigue of the 009, and the warmth of the 007 are actually my biggest issues with each...lol. I think I would still take the 009 transparency overall but I will continue to seek out a 4070 for audition
I preferred the 009BK out of my SR-X+ vs the KGSSHV so I can believe that.Ah… In which case, you may find the 4070 may have something for you. Lighter weight the better for me, though after owning and using the Audeze LCD-2 Closed-Back for a couple years, I think my neck muscles have acclimated to anything short of putting a dumbbell on my head

Ah… that is the Anniversary 009? Does it sound any different from the normal 009? Always wondered about that.I preferred the 009BK out of my SR-X+ vs the KGSSHV so I can believe that.

The BK is ever so slightly warmer than the stock 009, most likely due to slightly different pads, though I'm not sure if those are the same pads as the 009s or if it's some other set.Ah… that is the Anniversary 009? Does it sound any different from the normal 009? Always wondered about that.
It's not a transformative difference by any means but it does smooth out some of the perceived treble fatigue and as a result is overall probably my favorite version of the 009. The 009s is fantastic as well to be clear but I prefer the low/lower-mid end on the 009/BK and would take those every time.
By way of comparison to illustrate the subtlety of difference, I have had different units of the same Lambda model, that had more unit-by-unit variation than I have heard between the BK and the stock 009. But it is still there.

Ah! Thanks for the explanation. Will keep an eye out for them. Agree with you in respect of stock 009. Really curious about this headphone but the price in the .arket is absurdEarly start to May Day holidays. Decided to bring out the Stax SR 4070 for a listen off the KGST. Always enjoyable especially off tube energizers.

Yes, looking at some of the asking prices. Like most vintage Stax, the asking prices in Japan are much more moderate.Really curious about this headphone but the price in the .arket is absurd

My dealer has just mailed me that the 007mkII is discontinued.
A few months ago it was confirmed that only 007a was discontinued and that the 007mk2 would continue. My dealer has just mailed me that the 007mkII is discontinued.
I must say I'm pretty shocked. Killing off the 007 seems like a horrible choice unless that means they have a mk3 coming out (detachable cables?).

He also shortly talks about completing the lineup, which imho could mean that the 007 and 009 may continue in tweaked forms.

The L300 was removed from their lineup on the website too. Maybe an L300 mk2 or they could just let the SR-X1 fill that price category?https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-stax-thread-iii.677809/post-18090947

The SR-X1 is the new entry-level model essentially replacing the L300, they've sorted that out.
But they will not abandon the space between an L700 Mk2 and an X9000.
