NEW HiBy R4
May 26, 2024 at 6:49 AM Post #736 of 750
Still waiting for my unit to arrive, but apparently the output impedances of R4's 3.5mm and 4.4mm output are 1Ω and 2Ω respectively, which explains the noise problem on balanced output when paired with sensitive IEMs like Andromeda. Kinda worrying since I mainly use Softears Volume lately, but we'll see. If the worst comes to the worst, I'll just use it on its stock unbalanced cable, I guess.

Is the noise reported by others for this very unit?

The OI has nothing to do with the noise floor however. If anything, all else being equal, a high OI would make low-Z IEMs quieter.

Also, another thing: I’m playing around with poweramp to look up presets, then move them natively to the HiBy Music app when I find one I like for my headphones. I noticed that it doesn’t seem to be a 1 to 1 in sound when moving presets on the 10 band EQ over. Any reasoning for that?
Graphic EQs are never made equal, unfortunately...

Parametric EQs are somewhat equal when the same filter types, gains and Q / BWs are specified exactly.

Graphic EQs, you have 10 frequencies (may not even be the same frequencies) specified to be at 10 gain values. Whether that means the 10 frequencies should be at exactly those gains is not specified (think low Q filter spillover). What happens to all the frequencies in between is also not specified. That's not to say that one EQ is better than another. They're just all different.

One of the early reviews did mention about hissing on the background when paired with Andromeda. But yeah, rather than the noise floor, my main concern would be the elevated lows when Softears Volume is paired with higher OI. I've tried it with F.Audio T3 and it does elevate the lows, which made me prefers pairing it with SXFI than T3.

Got my R4 a couple of days ago. I really like everything about it.
Does someone know how to connect the R4 with a PC via Bluetooth, such way that my PC is the audio transmitter and the R4 is the audio receiver?
I have paired my PC and the R4, but on my PC the R4 is being registered as ‘another unit’ and not as an audio unit, and therefore I can’t establish connection to the R4 from my PC. I’m running Windows 10.

If you would just like lesser lows, there *is* a systemwide 10-band parametric EQ and that's barely scratching the surface of the device's sound shaping capabilities...

Probably, but I'm in the does it really matter camp.

I could talk about batteries but suffice to say there will be a R4 ii long before anyone's R4 batteries, charged to 100%, lose 20% of their original capacity so why cripple it to 80% now? Just don't leave it charged to 100% too long.
At first I would think this is good to have the choice of preserving the battery if one wants, or use the full battery capacity. But it is also true that batteries lose capacity naturally while aeging... So this is up to people's choice.

But, the point I wanted to make is; why would everybody throw away their R4 if a newer version shows up in 2-3 years time ???
I mean; maybe you like to renew your equipement regularly, but please consider not everybody wants to change every now and then.

If a device suits my needs, I'd be happy to use it as long as it stays functionnal, and in this case I'd like to keep the battery in good state for more than the products life cylcle definied by marketing guys...

First, hold the bluetooth button in the pulldown menu to bring up the bluetooth page and tap "Bluetooth audio input"...

Can Hiby R4 be used as a DAC and bypass the battery?
You can kind of? It always draws power off the battery there is no desktop mode. You can turn off charging but then it draws power from the battery. You can have set to constantly charge as well. These are the only two options. If your looking for a desktop mode this does not have it. I have a few daps without it and they are just fine. I just make sure I'm not charging when its at 100% and try not to let them drain to 0. Just unplug when not in use and fully charged.

I just experienced that.it drains battery power on desktop mode.also still get very hot even used as DAC.
did you check with the staff at HiBy HQ and run the temperature test the way they advised?

the HW test app is the app they were using to sort good devices from a defective one and should not itself cause the device to misbehave like you say.

Again, their email is hello@hiby.com .

yeah..I did that multiple times...mine is running constantly at 45 degrees which in hiby books its the normal temperature for this device to play music, because the A class amplifier....everything you touch on this music player result in a toasty thing with I don't like...I will try to sell mine because hiby don't offer money refunds(same as many other Chinese companies)
