PSA: Someone is selling their Playback Designs Merlot. The dac is excellent (better than Bartok, Lina, etc.) and that's probably what most people buy these things for, but if you want one of the best amps for Grado you should seriously consider picking this one up. You are limited to Merlot as the only dac. However, I have never heard my Grado sound better out of any other amp/dac combo than the Merlot for under $10k.

I have been searching and searching for a streaming device for local media and I believe I have found a "cheap" sollution.
I have tried the Fiio M17, A&K SP3000 and SR35, Wiim pro, ...
I had a lot of issues with commercial streamers like for example the ifi Stream. The software behind it could not handle a local library of let say 500+ songs which were stored on a simple ssd hard drive!

Now I am using a Linksys WRT1900AC with a 2TB SSD. This router can share external storage so it can act as a media server.

I am using Android usb audio player pro (which is connected via usb to one of my dac's). It seems to be working very well for the moment.

I had a lot of struggle to finally find something that's working. I am also paying attention to energy usage so I want to use the solllution that uses less energy.

I am mostly running all audio devices from a portable battery.

"I" made a song about Grado fans with AI. Enjoy :D

Fortunately my credits are used up now or i would spend all night trying different styles.
Those lyrics btw are written by me, the stuff the AI comes up with is awful.
For those of us for whom our life’s savings is owed to Grado, we viscerally appreciate this “Ode To Grado!”

I recently purchased the 325x and am really enjoying it. It's a keeper. But as someone who likes a variety of sounds (I used to have seven pairs of speakers I would switch out but headphones are a lot easier to do that with!), I was wondering how the sound character of the 325x differs from the RS2x (and what is similar). I like the Grado sound but wonder if there is enough difference between these two models to warrant having them both. Thanks in advance!

They are very different. 325x it's dark and physical, RS2x energetic and fast.

325x very easy do like. RS2x it's a wild beast. Sometimes it's horrible, sometime the best in the world.

I bought the RS2x because fans said it has the classic John Grado sound. It's really unique and worthwhile.

And looks and smells amazing.

Me too. Stand alone mics are worth the investment. And you can use whatever amp and headphones you want without a care in the world. headsets are usually more expensive anyways.

I just want to say I didn’t expect a big difference, but these RS2e cans are exceptionally better than the SR325e. Midrange is still in full force but such a smoother and present treble and the bass doesn’t seem less, but more real and really holding it down for lack of better words.

Those X drivers worth checking out?

Pardon this interruption from cousin Nakamichi SP-7.

F-pads from iPhone dongle.:
- Just like a Grado… Will compare to SR60 and 325x later.
- From memory, reminds me most of SR60 aside from more forward vocals here. I think open-back enclosure would add some warmth and make these next level.
- very good detail, wondering how it fares against other Grado in this regard. Im not sure if its Reference series level but maybe.
- like SR60/80, incredible value used ($75)
- lightweight, makes me want to replace 325x with SP-7 for portable
