Do you mean CV4079? I have CV4079 from 1981 bought from Langrex and also a quad of them from July 1961 bought from this seller https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265348682503 They seem to be old stock from Bundeswehr and they were cheaper and I like them better. This could be just in my head but if so, it is in good company.
I also have square getter A2293 (taller bottle). They sound different with more clarity. They all sound good.

Yep CV4079, sorry typo! Also from Langrex.

I have to give those a shot as well.

The difference between 1961 and 1981 isn't big, if it even exists, but these tubes compare well to 6080/6AS7G so they are worth having. But don't speak about this. That would make them disappear from the market at a much higher price :zipper_mouth:

Are you saying they compare well with G.E.C 6080/6AS7G? I've been using A2293s for years (I have a lifetime supply, so go ahead and buy all the rest :L3000:) but the G.E.C 6080/6AS7G have been a little too rich for my blood. So I've wondered how they compare.

I guess this might depend on in which amp/circuit you are using them and maybe the whole setup. I bought a quad of GEC 6AS7g a few years ago, intended for a friend in US. He suggested we should split it in a pair for us each. I tested them for function in my amp, briefly, and then compared them to CV4079 (didn't have a flock of A2293 at the time) and decided that his amp probably could use them better. I haven't lost any sleep due to this decision, probably partly due to that I don't try to make money from tubes.
