FIIO Flagship all-in-one digital media streamer R9 Discussion & Impressions Thread

I've burned in the R9 for over 24 hours now, so far its been great. At first listen the tuning was a bit lean and harsh but after I let the unit playing for 24 hours I can make out changes in the bass, soundstage and the upper mids peak seems to have cooled down.
I leave the player on DSD Conversion mode which also helps make music a teeny bit more analog sounding and can tame the upper mids peak a bit. Micro details are about the same, which is excellent.
The R9 has been DEAD SILENT when I'm not playing music no matter if I use my Annihilator 2023 or my HD650/JAR650. The THX tech seems to work as advertised.

I have also purchased a SR Purple Fuse (5x20mm - Slow Blow (T) - 250V - 2A) which will probably flesh out the mids and increase realism in the music (these fuses have improved my desktop source gear quite a bit)
Hello friend, when you test that fuse, tell us how it goes and if it is really worth installing that fuse.

Does the R9 have a line in input? I'm trying to figure out how to use line out from my DX320 AMP12 module (which is 4.4mm line out) and feed it line in into my R9.

Nevermind..... just finished reading @Ichos review on the R9 and it states that there are no line input options on the device.

Yep, not on the older R7 sibling, either. I had hoped they would add a line input with the R9… heck they could have replaced one of the line out pairs with line in. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It would have made the unit more rounded, IMO… for anyone who wanted to use the R9’s amps with an external analog source. Sadly, FiiO didn’t seem to think that use-case was worth doing for their flagship.

Its definitely a drag but not the end of the world for me, I was trying to add different flavors to the presentation but I'm quite happy with how the R9 has turned out for me. It can finally replace my desktop gear as I'm trying to downsize due to funds and space.

Once I get that Purple Fuse in my hands, I will try to give a detailed impression of the before and after. I'll also experiment with a beefier and longer power cable for the R9.

I would expect that changing to a (DC) linear power supply would have a much more impactful effect than a beefier AC cable.

Just add a FiiO PL50 that is not expensive and does a good job in enhancing the sound. The icing on the cake.

It looks neat, I'm just using a Furman Power Conditioner at the moment but I'm sure a full linear power supply would bring far better improvements.

I'm guessing the FiiO PL50 doesn't come with a DC cable right? If so, which DC cable do you use with your R9?

It comes with a high quality, rather thick, DC cable.

Or Teddy Pardo, a very quiet linear power supply, has a very positive effect on the sound of the R9 and any quality DAC.
I compared the PL50 and Teddy Pardo, Teddy won, it was very noticeable in the headphones.
