A DAC needs DI-24HE... just guessing.
I think this is useless, since Kingwa talked about the slight difference between the built-in converter in the R7HE MK2 and the external one.

Well something isn't right then because a good digital source shines.

I added DI24HE to my number 2 system with R7HEmk3 and bedroom system with R27HE with big improvement over DI20HEs on both systems. On my system 2 I am running an Afterdark Emperor double crown clock through the DI24HE which sends the external clock signal to Sotm SNH10G and R7HEmk3. Difference is big I couldnt go back.

On my bedroom system I am feeding the internal clock from the DI24HE to R27HE and Etherregen. There is an improvement but much more subtle than Afterdark Clock. I am intending adding a Afterdark clock to bedroom system too.

I upgraded from DI20HE to DI24HE and it is a very useful upgrade even without using clock in and out of DI.

The DI20HE wasnt compatible with my Kii BXT speakers so I bought a Grimm MU1. I am dead keen to try a DI24HE with external Afterdark clock into the Kii's. It would be an interesting comparison.

I tried running USB inputs of the R7HEmk3 and R27HE before the DIs and even the DI20HE was a subtle but worthwhile improvement, DI24HE much bigger change.

I see you have mac mini as source. Please try the Teradak PSU solution and revisit your impression about DI20/24HE.

The DIs needs very clean source to shine.

….and Kingwa is very humble, sometime it takes philosphy to understand what he really means about improvements…in my humble opinion.

Thanks, but I already bought exactly the same second deck and transferred my digital collection to cassettes.
R7HE MK2 will go on sale soon.

It is not to be found anymore on Kam Audio.

Trust me this will be the best upgrade in your system. Then add the DI

On a dirty source the Gustard U18 actually performs better than DI20HE. That is why I am saying DI20/24HE will outperform the U18 on clean source. 20HE DOES!

....

Further more - get some ACSS cables and try this

Does a Macbook have the same result?

Does a Macbook have the same result?
This is two parts.

1. Replacing the internal psu/regulator
2. LPSU

So this is completely native solution.

Mac Mini owners is missing out big time on this.

For laptop I have not tried any solutions.

This is what replace the mac minis SMPS

I have not heard about the positive results of converting the M1 to linear power.
The total load on the processor when using Audirvana does not exceed 2%, I think that Kingwa installed good filters at the USB input in his top DACs.

Yip. There are number of internal SMPS regulators, it makes little difference. But Macbooks have very noisy USB with PD and Thunderbolt features. It can be reduced by self-powered USB 2.0 (not 3.x) hub. If DAC is the only device attached to a hub, it can be the cheapest one.

Also use USB "2.0 High-Speed" cable, not 3.0 cables. Extra unused wires bring more noise from the 3.0 root hub.
