Ey, somehow I missed this part. I’m giving up on the uppermost echelons of the market after trying the Annihilator generously loaned by my friend. I mean it’s literally one of the best IEMs in the world right now no matter how you slice and dice it, and it sounds wonderful, but idk, it does...

    Aful Performer Impressions Thread

Hifigo asked me to share these in the review. Since I’m still writing, might as well drop these here first I’m in Australia. I order directly from Hifigo because it’s the quickest, and they agree to send to local post office for me. Regarding the tips, the stock ones are okay, but I use Tri...

I also found that the Explorer performs at roughly the same technical performance with P5, but with better bass, and I also prefer the tuning of Explorer. It’s still not as technical as P8, though I prefer its tuning over P8.

The level 5 of this showroom kinda suck 😅

The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.

Not really incoherence for me. The DD used here has the same snappy response that sounds like BA woofers (but with great subbass and texture), so it follows the upper frequencies well. My major problem is that it pushes the whole stage forward. Heck, it does not have that “wrap around” effect...

Yeah, it’s frustrating how some “cheaper” sets are so close yet still not there, especially when they pack genuinely innovative tech inside. For example, I’m reviewing the Pilgrim at the moment. It’s snappy, it’s detailed, it layers well, it’s tuned very well, yadda yadda. But the soundstage...

Price tag? J/k, I get what you mean. In my case, it’s the soundstage imaging and resolution. Few budget Chifi can do those beyond “okay”

Howdy folks, My review of HiBy x FAudio Project ACE is online on head-fi and my blog.

Review by 'o0genesis0o' on item 'HiBy x F.Audio Project Ace'

Collaboration Once upon a time, the concept of a collaboration between a manufacturer and a reviewer to build an In-Ear Monitor (IEM) was a rare occurrence and a promising sign of a breakthrough in sonic performance and price-to-value ratio. However, collaborations have become much more common...

    Elysian Pilgrim

Not just better, different. This IEM (pilgrim) is not a low-res and cheaper anni. It’s just tuned differently.

Enjoy, mate! Good way to forget about all of this for a while. You have had one heck of a month What high-end stuffs? I need to buckle up and finish all the review today. So many stacking up 🥲

The stage could be quite nice with this one. No early ear gain + that dip around 5kHz + some meat on the bone at the lower mid are good signs. but, that upper midrange amount might ruin everything. I think it is at least 12dB if not more. Expect a “simgot 2023” target (not the harman, the...

    Elysian Pilgrim

Replace Zaku with Anni 2023 😂 But I enjoy this Pilgrim IEM quite a bit. One of the finest mid-fi at the moment, IMHO. I don’t usually listen to songs (aka ones with voices), but Lee changes my mind with this one. Flat, non-annoying midrange with excellent vocals, both male and female ones...

Nah, different types, IMHO. There are many ways to be safe. Moondrop and Simgot are “safe” in the sense that there is no surprised, (they are harman or diffused field with bass boost). This one is “safe” because Lee tunes the midrange with right with less ear gain. But he left a small peak...

To my ears, this particular DSP dongle makes this IEM sounds more Harman than the stock, neutering its advantages (bass and warmer sound). And it has a faint waterfall hiss as well. And it’s insanely loud at 9/100 volume level.

This IEM shines with this setup and album. The DSP dongle is frankly unnecessary, at least IMHO.

I’m not aware that the dongle of Splendor 2 has EQ baked in 🤔 interesting. I should measure with and without it. I do hear the tonal balance and shape of the stage a bit different, but I attributed to the weaker amp that fail to drive the bass properly. We will see. i also kinda disagree that...

Single DD IEMs tend to respond well to extra Vrms, in my experience. Balanced output provides that. On the other hand, stubbornly low sensitivity IEMs like those from Singaporean boutiques can be so current limited that additional voltage from balanced does not seem to help. It’s still a...

I think Chinese factory actually bluetack the drivers to the coupler just to check if they make sound according to the plan before selling 😂 Edit: @Surf Monkey to be fair, MacBook becomes much much better after Ive left. My new M1 Pro macbook can run bigger LLM model fully on GPU, on battery...

Ouch, that’s bad. Have you tried FiiO FF3? The OG one, not the revision. I bought it because I spent the whole morning at my local hifi store and unbox many of their demo units, so I figure I should grab something before leaving. Those flathead buds blew my mind 😂 thus began the obsession with...

That’s flathead earbuds. Measurements of those are mostly for 💩 and giggle. If you press the earpieces harder against the concha you have more bass. Release it just a touch and you have no bass. Moondrop’s graph is likely correct since they use a HATS with ears.

    Elysian Pilgrim

It’s like Lee ran out of budget when reaching the cable after making the earpieces and designing the box 😂 So it seems the Pilgrim OG has 1BA mid and 2BA highs, 3 way crossover. The Pilgrim Noir has 2BA mid and 1 undampened Knowles supertweeter right in the nozzle, 4 way crossover. It seems...

What I learned lately is that us “audiophile” do not like high fidelity that much 😂 class A, NOS, dark IEMs. We always try to cut down that “high res” info that modern gear is capable of producing.

I think it depends on the DAC. The RS6 sounds different, the DX300 sound different, most of my FiiO sounds the same, the R8II sound the same. On DX300, you can circle between filters without looking at the screen. I did that multiple times and almost always land on the D2 (still have no idea...
