    The Reference 6SN7 Thread

I think the ebay sellers simply read forums like this and hike up the prices once someone is very impressed with a particular tube. Once phrases like "holy grail", "bad boy" or "black beauty" are thrown around that's it - 1000% price increase. We just have to start saying they're all rubbish...

That's awful. Sorry to hear that. Did you buy it new? Sounds like it should all be fixed under warranty to me. Not good enough tbh.

You can just about see the writing in one of the shots but yeah - no way I was going to get that.

Glad to hear it. Enjoy it! Also glad to hear there may well be something to dethrone the MOs. I love those tuuuubes. I'll be after a pair when he next does a batch. Probably next year now. Hopefully I will have paid everything off by then too.

Sounds great. They're on my radar for the next batch.

Yeah you should be able run them out of an 80s walkman really. Must be a waste of money 🤪

How exciting. Very curious about those TMs. I too love the MOs and WEs for different flavours. That said the MOs rarely leave my Envy.

Yes the tubes can "crackle" or "whoosh" but this (with good tubes) should be very mild and very occasional and can clear as the tubes warm up. With older tubes it could be a sign they are reaching EOL. I had it even with the stock PSVanes. Swapping and reseating them was enough. Sometimes for...

Sounds a bit odd to me. The WE is definitely not a harsh tube more tuuuubey. They do change quite a bit over time but I guess I've only really burned in one pair. The second pair was sold and was in an Envy being reviewed. The reviewer noted it sounded a little grainy until it was burned in. I...

    NEW HIFIMAN Susvara Unveiled!

The colour is a bit boring in that 1970s brown. At least they got rid of the cheap ass wood effect. We'll have to see what they can deliver.

Thanks both. I love the way one of the albums is marked as "audiophile edition"! Well recorded stuff for sure. Some random tracks I listen to and think Holy xxx that sounds awesome (pretty random tbh): Listen to Dat Dere by Rickie Lee Jones on Qobuz https://open.qobuz.com/track/755696...

I think I like the Ken Rads better with the MOs. The RCAs are much softer and have a little less top end so potentially missing a bit of detail in comparison. They are excellent all rounders, more on the warm side. The Bass is quite strong in the Ken Rads though. I think the "cheaper" versions...

Quite liking the KEN-RAD CKR 6SN7GT VT-231 Black Beauty tubes. Very clean with nice bass extension. They really were brand new looking NOS from the lovely (usually overpriced) eBay. MU2 has had 24hrs to burn in. It's enough for now lol...well until the Monaco Grand Prix in an hour. Happy Saturday!

Of course I always have it completely off with the WEs in. I was only referring to the Elrogs 😉 100%

I always leave it in stand by qhen bit in use. If its not glowing and no electricity is passing through I really doubt it will affect the lifespan of the tubes within. I only turn it off at the back to swap tubes.

It blew me away. I had MU1 + Bartok. It was really good. Lovely and meaty sounding. Plenty of detail. Tested MU1 with Dave as well. Amazing transients and seperation as Dave has. The MU1 shows you the beauty of your DAC but eliminated any annoying traits you might hear with some tracks like...

Haha no arrows from me and I love the Melz. They are still my most used tubes. Will finally get my Grimm MU2 on Friday. Been 4 weeks without my Envy in action! Can't wait to try out the Ked Rads and the Sylvania Tall bottles once I fire it up.
