Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

It’s odd cause it still sounds a touch current hungry. I have to test again tonight and see. I’m too tired now and that’s never a good way to test anything let alone sound. It could just be the song I heard which is hard rock and who knows how they recorded. Cause I can’t hear it on anything...

Oh boy, some words of advice to everyone. @Thorsten Loesch Don’t plug your Ifi Zen can into a power strip. I can’t believe I even did that from the get go. I never plug audio gear into a power strip. But this is next to my sofa for headphone listening , so I didn’t pay attention. 🤦‍♂️...

Can I not solder the os cons with a regular soldering iron? And do the os Cons add to transient speed since they are low ESR? Plus reducing the cable length Thanks!

So I’m assuming these would be the best? I don’t know the size of the original input cap so I would have to check it out. Don’t know if the Chemicon I linked to is the right size. Basically it should have the lowest ripple in the specs...

Which ones are the FCON? The blue or green arrows? And which ones are the PSU capacitors? I found the rest you mentioned

That’s actually exactly what I mean by slam. And yeah I want to hear those cescendos come to full fruition. Which they do now. I want a tiiiiny bit more maybe. But that could also be eq . Yeah I have a super capacitor on its way. Is it easy to take the ipower apart and replace the cable...

Is there a Fostex headphone with those qualities out of the box? ( sorry posted this before ) Btw, what makes an amp have more slam and impact? If I wanted something a bit more would be a touch more slam from the Zen Can Sig. mind you, just a smaaaall touch more slam or speed or whatever I’m...

Funny you mention planars as a tried Hifiman XS planars and did not like them at all. Maybe I wasn’t driving them well, but they sounded zingy and lacked weight and punch. Dynamics. Maybe I need to try better ones. But everyone raves about hifi man. I suspect Hifiman is the headphone Amir...

No I hear ya. Of course it needs explaining and I completely agree. If only we could return to the momentum of 1980-90…..before globalization. I agree that’s when cheap Chinese stuff was the allure and made quality suffer. And now with all that is going on, cheap stuff is expensive and...

Which headphones do you have running with the zen can?

I’m going to get a supercapacitor module soon to test so I’ll be able to tell you as well if it makes a difference. Just fyi

Thanks man. Do you have the regular IpowerX with your zen can? What improvement did you find with the new PSU? Thanks

Which one was it if you can send a link please. @Thorsten Loesch , will a cheap SMPS work well without adding noise since internally there is a switcher as well? We really need to find a good cheap SMPS will higher amps Thanks

I don’t know about here. But one Superbestaudiofriends that might be something they would find attractive.

Well OPA1644 does have a much higher slew rate. Is it that much better than the one currently in the amp? ( OPA1679) Swapping opamps is all the rage now. Just wondering if it would make that much of a difference. Most say switching opamps doesn’t make much of a difference. Thanks Thor!

Ifi says they use ov2637a on the Zen Can Sig . Is that just a rebranded OPA1679? Thanks.

Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

No I didn’t read up on paralleling stuff sounds bad. I actually expected it to sound better and was surprised it didn’t. I will most likely get the supercap for the extra power when it needs it. Ah I didn’t know it’s a straight swap. Maybe I’ll have some pro do that for me in the future...

Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

Yes that’s right, you said that the opamps would need a different circuit as well or something . So no just swapping them out for something else if I remember correctly. I do find it interesting that me putting two ipowerX in parallel made the sound muddy. Maybe it’s having them in...

Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

Funny, I tried a second Ifi powerX in parallel with my powerX ( that is two ipowerX in parallel) and the sound added bass but it was muddy. With one ipowerX the sound is much better. 🤷‍♂️

Is there anything else we can upgrade on the Zen Can Sig for better sound? Thanks

Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

Does that mean that since it’s regulating the power internally that clean power pre main board doesn’t make much of a difference?

Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

I’m still confused on what to use for my Zen Can Sig for power The Zen can has circuitry onboard That lowers noise from a power supply. So if we use pretty much any power supply with good current and a capacitor bank, won’t the capacitor bank condition the power to eliminate most of the noise...
