    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

I’ll make sure to read it! May the words flow easily for you 🙌 The first sentence is always super hard for me, for some reason 😂

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

True, it was! People were stoked to get the well-loved 13 year old headphone for about half off the going rate at the time! But grell audio is still a new company, this is the first full-size headphone for the brand, and from the headline a lot of people wouldn’t know who Axel Grell was nor that...

To be fair, “excessive” is a subjective term, and elevated may be excessive for you even if it doesn’t hurt the perception of something else such as soundstage. With that said, Bose, Sony, Sennheiser and others typically boosting the midbass for consumers, I think a bit of extra saturation is...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

It’s elevated bass, but I think excess would be more drastic and start to mask other aspects of the sound. Excess would indicate a problem, a detraction from the rest of the performance or something painful IMO.

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

I did not perceive any significant lack of soundstage or separation, perhaps the bass is not excessive.

I don’t have an NDH-30, and while I think I would prefer the Grell’s mids over a HiFiman HE-560 and lower, I have not bought any (I did get to borrow an HE-400, 400i, 500, and 560 at home, but that was some years ago). Can’t confirm if the Sundara mids are like the HE-560 either because I...

Compare and contrast between the OAE1, HD 650, and HD 800 added to my review, under the “Gear Testing” spoiler section: https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/drop-grell-oae1-signature-headphones.27216/review/33836/ I will reiterate: all these headphones are enjoyable once you get used to them, no EQ...

Oh, also this thread made me realize I need to clean the tarnish off my connector, suggestions welcome 😅

    Wireworld Nano-Platinum Eclipse Headphone Cable

Sorry I didn’t see this thread before… I have a Wireworld NPE for my HD 800 series headphones, and I love it. Once upon a time, I actually didn’t believe cables made a difference noticeable enough to be worth the upgrade prices. Then, during my bachelor’s party (look, it was a more quiet thing...

@roncri I no longer have my pair of AKG K712 Pro, which would have been an equivalent or near equivalent substitute for the K7XX (different color, accessories, and perhaps driver matching tolerance). I did switch between HD 800, HD 650, and OAE1 for two songs last night… I think each are good...

    .....and, I'm up for air!

I picked up a couple AKG’s along my journey; Q701, K712 Pro, and I still have my pair of K612 Pro today! I sent them in to Tyll so that he could add them to his measurements database. I agree they’re pretty fantastic. They scale up really well with better gear upstream too… when I got my Cavalli...

FYI, that Ultrasone WAS unusual and… most people wouldn’t like it, but as a brand they don’t tune everything the same and I quite like their S-Logic on a couple of their cans 😁 Your signature is literally two iPhone screens worth of scrolling 😂 Do you know there’s a “gear inventory” section of...

I'd guess the amount of copper underneath the insulation is about average gauge, the rubber around the single-ended 3.5mm cable is wider than a typical USB cable but once it splits to enter each earcup the individual cable "sides" are about 2/3 the diameter of a typical USB cable. The balanced...

@Skeza I’m actually sorting the 2.5mm balanced connectors as a “pro!” I mean, I don’t like 2.5mm terminations where the cable meets the amp/DAP/dongle. But I do think it will be easy and less expensive for third parties to make custom cables for the OAE1 for people who like that sort of thing 👍...

Yeah, and it’s positioned forward of your ear canal and angled back. That, plus the unusual % of how open the baffle is, are the major innovations/unique things about this headphone. Thanks for the shout out! With a driver that’s “flat,” firing directly into your ear canal, pretty much the...

Oh, and @maegnificant , some people just totally prefer the intimate sound of headphone playback of plain regular stereo regardless, and I respect that. I just think it’s cool to have both options.

https://www.strax.com/ He had to buy back the rights to use his own name for his company. It was a very difficult ending. Most music is recorded and performed with the intended playback on a pair of stereo speakers. Some DVD and BluRay 5.1 mixed recordings do exist, and what you get there is...

@OnlySoMany everything, not literally no, but the earcup frame, mesh, yolks, and structure are metal (everything you see in silver). And, it’s still really lightweight considering the earcups are pretty big. And I know the feeling… I couldn’t afford a hotel in NYC for CanJam this year (I was...

@Audi5000 I think grell is trying to make it easier and give extra perks for the early adopters who don’t have any reviews yet (besides my own), in the hopes to attract more reviews. But it’s selling pretty fast, and I think that would probably be a good sign for future runs, so while I’d like a...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

It would be more simple to advertise “speaker-like sound,” but Axel has been veeeery careful to not promise the moon. Since the left ear still cannot hear what the OAE1’s right driver is doing at any significant SPL, there’s no true “In-Front Localization” that will happen JUST because of the...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

That’s a very significant and smart question. Many headphones have different squiggles depending on the SPL at 1kHz. And… I don’t know. Edit: I feel like Jude and Listener probably published their SPL somewhere, I just don’t know 🤷‍♂️ The OAE1 is easy to drive, so yes it will be sufficient...

@maegnificant I think I won’t hear back from Axel for awhile now that the High End show is over… I think the trade shows take a lot out of him 😅 That said, the tight tolerances might show up on the individual measurement data delivered with the Signature series. I don’t know German with any...
