    Monoprice Monolith AMT Headphones

I tried out my own "no bracket mod". Was it worth it? Yes and no. The tuning is still somewhat the same but the fr seems more cohesive and balanced. Don't do this mod if you think its reversible since I use adhesive but if you want to have an idea of what it sounds like, simply take out the...

    Monoprice Monolith AMT Headphones

I wanted to ask any mod/tweak enthusiasts about a potential idea that could maybe extend the treble of these headphones. I've noticed that the pad brackets appear to have a weaker seal, as the bracket rises with the screws, leaving a slight gap that contributes to the intimate, warm sound...

I also think the pads are holding these back. Hedd has a better seal with thier pads since the seal of the pad covers the lining of the actual driver.

I agree. The AMT is kind of addictive in its sound but also has characteristics that make them less neutral and more "fun" sounding. On some tracks, the tonality is pretty good and others, there seems to be sudden changes in its tonality that are noticeable. It may just be the recording but I do...

@trellus I see that you own a Stax headphone. How do they compare to the Monoprice AMT's?

I think that's a great stack. I have a master 9 and r8 dac from audio gd. The master 9 has 9 watts into 40 ohms and it throws a wide stage with any headphone I use. So I guess it helps with the already intimate soundstage of the AMTs.

I agree that the sound-stage is a bit intimate after the mod but with the use of eq, it can balance out. Also, even though they are a bit congested, the AMT's have this weird satisfying imaging that kinda makes up for it. The resonance in the stock form made the bass feel it a bit flat and less...

    Audio-GD Master 9

I've tried things like the Uptone regen which is supposed to one of the best but I don't think I really get much of a benefit out of it.

Does a Macbook have the same result?

After some time with this headphone, It is beginning to become one of my favorites. One thing I've noticed is that it scales up quiet nicely with better gear and source chains.

    Audio-GD Master 9

I wanted to add to the comparison as well. I think ACSS has a rich tonality that focuses on being a little more on the intimate side. Vocals and certain instruments are more solid and in your face but in a good way whereas with XLR, it feels a bit wider and laid back while keeping details intact.

Yeah I forgot to mention that too. Sound stage seems to be almost the same but the imaging improved significantly. The placements of instruments are better.

Just tried the mod. I'm pleasantly surprised. Tighter bass response, much airier treble. I wonder if other material would work better.
