    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

How long are y’all finding the Aegis takes to warm up and sound it’s best? As I recall, my Quicksilver used to take about 20-30 minutes.

Thanks, Wes! I think I'll order a cover with a height of 10.75 inches to give myself a little wiggle room.

    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

I'm about to order one of these custom fabric dust covers on eBay for my Aegis. Did we ever reach a consensus about how tall the amp is with the tallest output tubes including adapters? I know my potato masher rectifier is a huge tube as well, so if the amp with stock tubes is 8" tall, what...

The FedEx tracking for my Aegis just went from "out for delivery" to "delayed" until tomorrow. Can't say I'm surprised, but it's disappointing. One more day of waiting...

I know @DenverW has been using Bendix 6889 output tubes with adapters in his Aegis. I don’t see them listed on the tube compatibility spreadsheet. Do they require a high Vdrop rectifier? @L0rdGwyn

I also have an MJ3, and my OG Auteur sounds great on it. With that being said, I think my little SW51+ tube amp (that I just sold in anticipation of the Aegis) sounded just as good, and at times seemed to bring an added dimension to the sound the MJ3 couldn't quite match.

I’m hoping you’re wrong since I just bought an Aegis! I guess a really nice tube amp can give you the best of both worlds. That’s my hope at least!

What's the difference in these 1579 tubes and the much more common 6N9S?

Thanks for the input everyone! I’m going with Option 1. This will allow me to get a good idea of how the amp sounds in its stock form for the first few weeks. It will also give the amp a chance to burn in at the same time. That way when I start rolling tubes, the amp itself will have...

    ZMF Atrium Closed

For those AC owners with an Aegis, are you favoring the low, medium or high output impedance, and are you using the 6.35mm or 4-pin XLR output? I’m also interested in what tube combinations others have found to sound great with the AC. I’m going to stick with stock tubes while the amp burns in...

The (Un)Official Amp Thread For ZMF Headphones

My Aegis is due this Friday. I plan to put it up against my current favorite amp, the Mjolnir 3. I know they’ll both have their strengths, but I hope the Aegis wins me over in the end with all my headphones so I can sell the MJ3 and soothe my poor wallet.

For all you tube rollers out there, what is the recommended approach for rolling tubes in the Aegis? Option 1: Stick with the stock tubes while the amp burns in and get a baseline feel for how it sounds before rolling any tubes. Option 2: Immediately try out a few different combinations of...

Just search "potato" on this thread and there are a few pictures of this mighty rectifier. I'll take a picture tonight next to my GZ34 to show how much bigger it is.

    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

Last night, I was opening the boxes of all the tubes I've ordered for the Aegis and could not believe how much bigger the "potato masher" 5R4WGA rectifier is compared to the Mullard GZ34 I got. I had to compare the bases/pins to make sure they were the same, and they are in fact identical. I'm...
