ZMF Verite Open

I think I posted this here or elsewhere, but it's probably worth mentioning - I am innately aware of all things subjective and objective when making each of our headphones. With the verite driver we were able to have this area be smoother when we used a lesser strength magnet, but instead decided to use the strongest magnet because it reduced THD, increased speed and impulse, and the sound overall has a bigger stage. A stronger magnet with my preferred membrane material was definitely a trade-off to a smoother looking graph, but fortunately we as humans don't hear specific frequencies when listening to a headphone, we hear them melded together.

Concerning target curves, I totally find them useful, and that's a whole other discussion, but until you know what your personal specific target curve is with each driver type, setup and circumstance, it's really hard to pit any one headphone against a target curve to make a broad stroke determination. I've found that audiophiles buying high end headphones have more varied taste then those buying consumer products, because we all spend SO much time figuring out what we like! I've had the fortune to start ZMF and really dive into this journey, and I've found that headphones tuned to the target curve above are just too bright for me - and I know that's totally personal, and by no means is a statement on whether this curve, or any curve is "right" or "wrong."

Down the line we will be posting more measurements to our site and I plan on posting more video's about our in shop process, it's something I've been meaning to do for a long time, but have been buried trying to churn out headphones! Definitely sign up for our newsletter and I'll let everyone know when new info is available and when I post video's on youtube etc.
Thanks so much for the additional insight. I had no doubt there was a good reason for the "unusual" dip, it's interesting to understand the choices that went into the design. It is definitely a headphone like no other - which is no doubt why we all love it so much.

Thank you. Does anyone know how these compare to the Sennheiser HD-600/650 magnets?

And can they be compared to Audeze magnets? For example the MX4 is shown as having 1.5 tesla magnets. But tesla measures magnetic flux, whereas newtons measure magnetic attraction? How can one compare?

Personally I am interested in enjoying headphones with lower strength magnets. I know most want the opposite.

I guess I got this wrong. When Zach says n52 magnet on the Verite Open, the "n" stands for "neodymium" (not Newtons) which is a magnet that can apparently can go up to 14,800 Gauss and this converts to 1.5 Tesla. Is this correct? So the Verite Open has a magnet that is as strong as the Audeze LCD-MX4 which is advertised at 1.5 Tesla?

MX4 use N50 type of magnet to achieve 1.5T. So to determine the strength of magnet we need the exact size of the magnet itself. Only Zach can answer this.

I can imagine actually Verite doesn't need 1.5T as driver also smaller than Planar in general (MX4 use 106mm driver). Per my understanding, planar has different type of sound wave compare to Dynamic, that's why they need bigger area of diaphragm to "compensate".

Hi, anyone using Violectric V550/V590 amp to drive Verite? Any comments?

My African Blackwood Verite LTDs have arrived!

As everyone always says,(but is so true) pictures can't do justice and accurately show how beautiful these headphones are.

Thank you to Zach, Bevin and the entire ZMF team. You've created another masterpiece.

I'm thinking of maybe trying out a Verite. The wood and grills just look so nice. What should I expect coming from a 6xx and Utopia?
Verite is a more musical, relaxing and wider stage than Utopia with slightly less speed, details and dynamics

Compared to the utopia,
-Noticeably suppressed upper mids
-Slightly less nuanced
-Imaging isn't as clear
-Wider stage, more enveloping and 3d feel especially with universe pads
-Smoother and more rounded transient
-Warmer undertone as oppose to the more neutral Utopia

A lot of it has to do with preference but the mids in particular can be very hit or miss with a lot of folks. Not something I'd recommend for a blind buy but if you can get past that I doubt you'll find anything else like it in the market. Great complement to a neutral hp like utopia at least for my preference.

Ordered a new chassis and headband from Zach 2 weeks ago because my old one was heavily scratched because of my old desk, installed them yesterday and now my verite looks just like new 😍
